It was almost sunset now. How long had he been standing here? Not even back in the village for two days and I've already picked up Kakashi's bad habit...
Sasuke sighed, picking up the traditional round pointed hat from the monument. He fingered the edge, wondering--maybe--if there were a spare blond hair trapped between the red fabric.
"Hachidaime-sama?"
Sasuke tilted his head, letting him know he'd heard him, but he remained standing at the memorial.
"Hachidaime-sama? If we don't hurry, you're going to be late to your own ceremony."
"I heard you the first time," Sasuke replied curtly. "Give me a moment."
"Hachidaima-sama, with all due respect, I think you've been paying respect to Nanadaime-sama for too long."
Sasuke turned his head, glaring at the young nin who had been assigned as his attendant. "Nanadaime Hokage was my best friend, don't speak ill of him in my presence."
The nin swallowed, taking a small step backwards and nodding. "I apologize, Hokage-sama. I did not know. How unfortunate that he died only a day after his inauguration."
Sasuke nodded, turning back to the memorial, his eyes focusing right on 'Uzumaki Naruto'. "One day as Hokage..." I bet it was the best day of his life... He allowed himself a small smile before he set the hat on his head and turned away. "Let's go."
