Work today was awful. At least one part was. Here, look.
Okay. So I was trying to help this old lady get her stuff into her buggy, and I had to walk around my register to get there. Well, when I was finished and the old lady left, I had to get back into my little cubicle so I could help the next people who had been standing there forever. Well. Leslie was working right behind me and she had a lady in her line who was trying to work the little card slidey machine. Okay well this lady was blocking my path to my area. I said, rather meekly I might add, "Excuse me, please." She didn't acknowledge me. I figured she was slightly deaf because she was older, so I said it a little louder, but still politely, "Excuse me ma'am, I need to get through here." She ignored me, but I guess she saw me out of the corner of her eye, because she turned and looked at me very suddenly and yelled shrilly. Like "EEE!" And then she said, "COULD YOU WAIT A MINUTE?!" I couldn't, because I had to help the (patient) people in my line, but I wasn't about to tell this woman that. So I apologized (I didn't know why I was sorry, really, I just knew I was.) and scampered back into my area. Okay so I was pretty much wishing I was invisible, but I was just going on the hope that the worst was over. But no. The lady was still behind me. She said, "How rude. She is just so rude." I was still scanning the patient people's stuff when she left. She stopped right in front of the door and said, "HEY!" I looked over at her. She said, "DID YOU HEAR ME? I SAID YOU ARE RUDE! RUDE!" And my eyes just got really big, but thankfully the Lord blessed me with patience and the knowledge of when to keep my manners, so I said, "Yes, ma'am, I heard you. I'm sorry." It was so terrible. I mean, everyone pretty much stopped to watch that. I wanted to cry so badly. Ugh. The only thing that kept me together I think was the fact that I knew I hadn't done anything wrong. I didn't push her. I didn't even touch her. I didn't have an attitude. Whatever. Leslie told me later that she thought the lady was obsessive compulsive because she was wearing gloves or something. I don't know. But after the woman left, the lady that was behind her in line tapped me on the arm and said, "Honey, don't you listen to her. I saw what happened and you were polite as could be. You said 'excuse me' twice and it was not your fault." That made me feel some better.
