~*~
Kazuya had always loved Christmas. It was that time of the year where he felt like a child again - that nothing in the world mattered except for opening the gifts wrapped in colourful papers and bright ribbons underneath the Christmas tree.
The sound of Christmas carols and the soft creaks of wood burning in his fireplace echoed inside his home like the soft winter breeze, only with enough warmth to make him feel cozy. The soft, white and bluish glow of the Christmas lights had helped brighten up his tree as the smell of mint and coffee - Christmas was the only time Kazuya would willingly replace his vanilla-scented candles with peppermint-laced ones - were heavy inside his home.
With slow-paced steps, Kazuya walked to his Christmas tree and played with one of the candy canes that hung silently on its side. It was in swirls of green and red and white. Real candy canes on his Christmas tree had always been his tradition because he hoped for his Christmases to be always sweet and enjoyable as the candy.
Coming to a stop, Kazuya looked around his living room. It was bright and classy and all Christmas-y and he liked it that way. Admit it or not, he actually spent time decorating his home since, after so many years, he would be home for Christmas this year. It was an achievement on his part considering that not all JE idols get the chance to stay at home for the holidays. He was grateful that work for him had not been demanding lately, unlike to some.
Sitting cross-legged on the floor, Kazuya stared at the pile of gifts beneath the pine tree. Smiling slightly, he reached out for one and got hold of a gift, wrapped in a classy gold paper secured with red and green ribbons. The card on it read a simple Merry Christmas, Kame! From: Tatsuya
The next gift Kazuya had pulled out was in a round container that had silver ribbons. It was from a co-worker in his sports show. The third came from Nakamaru which was in plain green wrapper, the fourth from Koki which was elegantly wrapped in silver and black. The fifth was from Taguchi that came in glittery, glossy paper and neon pink ribbons.
"What the hell, Taguchi?" he asked - with a raised brow - to no one in particular as he inspected the box that was most definitely the most sparkly among his gifts.
Kazuya had also received presents from NewS, some from other senpais and kouhais at work and some more from co-stars.
In a lone corner, mailed packages and whatnots from fans who had decided to send their gifts at the Johnny's Family Club lay silently beneath the tree. But what amused him more though were the paper bags which all bore designer labels. The cards on the bags said that the gifts came from Santa and they all knew that Santa-san was Johnny-san himself trying to conceal his mushy side and identity in a pathetic attempt.
Kazuya smiled and put all of the gifts back beneath the tree before he reached for another. This time he got hold of a white paper bag that had gold trimmings on the edges. The brand name was in gold ink and elegant cursive letters. Kazuya immediately had an idea of what was inside the bag and he just had to shake his head in amusement as he read the card that said, Merry Christmas, Kame-chan! Oh, and please help me win the Best Jeanist award next year. Yey! From: Your almost best friend, Pi (aka your MIA boyfriend's bestest best friend).
Kazuya laughed a little as he put back the gift in its earlier place. He got up from where he was seated and checked to see if he had received any mail on his mobile that had lain forgotten on his coffee table. He did. His family had sent him holiday greetings and that his niece was looking forward to see him on New Year. Kazuya chuckled when he read that his niece wished for New Year to be the next day after Christmas so that she could play with Uncle Kazu, also hoping that Uncle Kazu would bring Uncle Uchi again.
These people loved him. Kazuya knew that these people would never leave him, no matter what and even if all hell broke loose. With a smile on his lips, Kazuya walked towards his kitchen to prepare himself a good cup of coffee.
As Kazuya waited for his coffee to brew, he glanced at his dining table and saw fruit cake, pasta dish in cream sauce, cheese platter with different fruits and breads, and a bottle of wine in a bucket of ice. Kazuya ignored them all. He wasn't even sure why he had prepared a simple dinner when he wasn't exactly in the mood to eat.
A small beeping sound echoed softly and so he shifted to the side to turn his coffee maker off.
Kazuya poured some of the black liquid in his mug, leaving all the cream and sugar stuffs behind. He left the kitchen to watch the gentle rain of snow again from his living room, thinking that he still would prefer coffee and tea over fruit cakes, pastas, cheese platters with fruits and breads, and wines anytime.
With a fluffy, white blanket and a strong black coffee to keep him warm, Kazuya held the ceramic with his two hands as he settled to watch the snow outside his window.
It was times like this that Kazuya felt at ease and peaceful.
The slow movements of flurry snows brought a smile to Kazuya's face and like a giddy child, he had hoped to see snowflakes tonight.
Snowflakes were special.
He had wonderful memories on snowflakes. He watched beautiful snowflakes fall and form during a trip in Hokkaido two years ago with the person he loved. They hugged and kissed under a tree with elegant pieces of snowflakes on its frozen branches as snow slowly made its way down from the sky. But what Kazuya loved the most about snowflakes were the look of child-like glee on the other's face and those dark-brown eyes that were wide and bright with happiness.
As memories flooded his mind, Kazuya tried his best to ignore the emptiness he felt inside his heart.
Minutes passed him by and it only seemed to grow bigger and bigger. Kazuya couldn't help but feel lonely and miserable as the emptiness took up more space in his heart.
Back then, when things weren't as complicated like they were now, Kazuya had always looked forward to spending Christmas with the person he loved. Even if work kept them busy, the two of them were both satisfied with the fact that they were together for Christmas even if all they could do was to secretly meet up in a secret place to share stolen kisses when the clock hits midnight and T-TUN and the staff were busy exchanging cheerful greetings of Merry Kurismasu.
This year would be different though, Kazuya thought sadly.
Even though he had given his support, Kazuya knew that it would always hurt knowing that he wouldn't be able to stand on the same stage with him again, performing and dancing and fooling around.
Jin no longer belonged to them but Kazuya couldn't stop himself from silently wishing for Jin to be still his, especially with the career opportunities the other had been receiving. Jin deserved it. He had dreamt of making it worldwide and had worked really hard for it.
Truth be told, there were too many doubts in his heart but Kazuya doesn't want to entertain any negative thoughts. He had always tried to be happy and satisfied with what he had and what he could have. He was, but then again, love grows weak in time and the current situation they were in didn't help the both of them either.
Waiting had never been an option for us, Jin.
I'm sorry, Kazu...
I won't wait for you any longer...
You better won't. It's all right. I understand. But please remember that I love you and don't ever forget that.
Good luck, Jin.
Don't be sad, love. Trust me, I'll do everything to win your heart and trust again.
Pushing the sad thoughts away, Kazuya focused on the snow that clung on the frame of his window. He didn't feel like wallowing in misery during Christmas, even if it was still two hours before the 25th of December.
Kazuya remained like that, content and happy with watching the snow falling down from the sky while comfortably seated on his couch.
Seconds became minutes without Kazuya realizing it. He preferred it that way, oblivious to the world while others were practically screaming with joy as their loved ones handed them pretty little presents to open when the clock hits midnight.
Reaching out on the table, Kazuya felt for his mobile and held it in his hand. Nostalgia crept through him as he stared at the image on his mobile, in which his wallpaper was a picture of them holding a small Christmas tree in a pot with cheeky smiles on their faces.
Ignoring that tight clenching in his heart, Kazuya pressed his finger pads on the screen and had set his mobile to alarm at 00:00 am so that he could open his presents before going to sleep.
~*~
It took Kazuya twenty minutes to finish his drink. He placed the now empty mug down on the table and hugged his knees close to his chest, all the while with his eyes still gazing outside his window.
People walked by slowly, cars were driven with utmost care. Snow danced around as pretty lights gave a festive feel, masking the world from all things sad.
It almost seemed impossible but today, everything fell in harmony.
~*~
Minutes ticked by and apparently, Kazuya had dozed off; he still had work earlier that day, and was woken up by a familiar song being sung lowly next to his ear.
"How are you doing? You haven't called lately.
Things must be getting on top of you as much as they are for me.
I'm sure, that at the slightest sound of your voice, I'd start crying from loneliness.
I don't want to be a pain."
Kazuya felt himself stiffen upon recognizing that voice. He had missed him. He had missed the other so much that it actually hurt.
"The radio's playing a Christmas song, are you listening to it too somewhere?
Don't you want to see this unfamiliar me?
I'm waiting for you, I'm waiting for you, I want to spend this time with you."
"Come back to me in time for Christmas
Even though we're so far apart, miles apart
Feel me all the time, don't make me cry, keep looking at me
Don't let this huge, huge distance stop your heart."
"Jin..." Kazuya whispered when the owner of the voice rested his chin on Kazuya's right shoulder, Jin's breath was warm against the skin of Kazuya's ear and cheek.
"Sorry" a voice murmured softly against his ear. "I didn't mean to wake you."
Kazuya tensed when he realized that everything wasn’t happening inside his dream. Kazuya remained silent then, waiting for anger and bitterness to wash over him, but it was only quiet and calm in the room. On one hand, Kazuya could almost taste the sweetness of reunion in the air, a separate fragrance from his and the other's scent. It even overpowered the smell of mint that silently wafted around his home and Kazuya felt like snuggling on the comfort that was Jin.
“Your apology didn’t even sound sincere.” Kazuya mumbled lowly. "But it's all right." He continued with a voice that was barely audible, finding it hard to speak when he had already kept in mind that everything between him and the other was over only to turn his world upside down again with Jin's return.
"Really?" the other asked. "I wouldn't want to make this long,” Jin stalled a bit, “but can we start all over again, Kazuya?" Kazuya could almost taste fear, regret, doubts, and hope in Jin's voice.
Silence was louder than before and Jin felt his heart race as anxiousness crept through him.
"Please, Kazuya…" Jin whispered when the younger refused to budge and hoped that Kazuya's innate stubbornness would waver.
"Why would you want that?" Kazuya asked, testing the waters.
"Because it's hard living with only half a heart. You're the other half; don't ask me why because you just are."
"Holidays always make you mushy," Kazuya said, teasing the other as he inched his body closer to the other. "If it would make you calm, I do understand everything, Jin. Honestly, I had my doubts. There were what ifs and I was afraid that you’d fail and then I won’t get to see you again. I didn’t like it; being kept in the dark and always waiting and hoping. But now that you're here with me tonight, can you just please tell me you love me to make things right again? I know how hard everything has been for you lately and I don't want to be a burden--"
"I love you more than anything else in this world, Kamenashi Kazuya so don't ever think, no matter how wrong everything seems to be, that you're a liability to me." Jin's words were heartfelt and silently screamed of an overflowing love.
Leaning his back to the warm chest behind him, Kazuya no longer cared that he was supposed to still feel bitter with everything that the other had done, ask about those random women and how Jin could refer to him and T-TUN as plain co-workers and nothing more because right now, the fact that Jin had decided to pursue his dreams no longer mattered to Kazuya. Deep within him, Kazuya was just happy to have Jin back.
"You're just exactly what I need to keep me moving forwards, Kazu," Jin whispered to the younger man's ear in a sudden and that was all Kazuya needed to be reminded of what made him fall in love with the other.
With a warm smile on his lips, Kazuya became certain that Jin would always be Jin, even if that silly teenager of yesteryears had long been replaced by his sexy, mature self.
Seeing Kazuya with such a serene expression on his face, Jin kissed him softly for a moment, and then he chuckled.
"You know, I was all ready for the cold treatment and sarcasm and this is what I get?"
"Give me some time to work up to it." Kazuya whispered against Jin's lips, kissing him again.
"I'll wait then," Jin said, arms encircling around Kazuya's waist.
"Welcome home, Jin," the younger whispered as he buried his face on the crook of Jin's neck. "I'm glad you're here now."
Lips pressed against Kazuya's temple and the younger male let out a sigh of contentment as he snuggled closer to the person he loved.
~*~
Kazuya almost giggled when he suddenly felt feather-light kisses on his nose, cheeks, and neck and just like that, all his earlier worries and sadness had faded. The younger of the couple wrinkled his nose and tried to prevent a wide grin from stretching his face too much.
"How come you're here?" he murmured against the other's lips.
"When I got back from my US tour, Santa-san had asked for me to go to his office the soonest time possible and when I was finally able to, I came to him and then he said, You! Go to Kamenashi. He's been a good boy this year," Jin replied, smiling at his boyfriend.
"Or what?"
"Santa-san said that he'd spank me good in the arse if I don't spend Christmas with you. He said that he doesn't care about Warner." Jin rolled his eyes. "Stubborn old prick, Santa-san is." He chuckled, amused at how the old man had come to accept his and Kazuya's relationship. It must be because of the holidays.
Kazuya kissed his boyfriend then pulled away with an adorable smirk on his face. "You know, you should have sung I'll be home for Christmas," he said in English. "It suits your situation better."
"Maybe," Jin replied and got up from where he was seated. "Your English is getting good, by the way. I'm a good teacher, right?" Kazuya smacked him in the head as an answer. "I was just kidding!" Jin ended up laughing after he had whined. "Anyway, what's for dinner?"
Kazuya glanced at his wall clock situated above his fireplace and raised a brow at his lover whose right hand was now entwined with his left. "It's fifteen minutes before the 25th. That's too late to have dinner."
"I can go for a really, very early breakfast. Doesn't matter," Jin answered and dragged Kazuya with him to the dining area.
Kazuya didn't like having sudden unexpected changes but upon glancing at their entwined hands, Kazuya knew he would choose this kind of unpredictable days over supposed to be lonely, gloomy ones where Jin wasn't anywhere near him. Also, his manager would stop reminding him to quit acting like Akanishi and start being Kamenashi again now that he's back with Jin.
"Why not have midnight snacks?" Kazuya asked instead even if his boyfriend had already sat down on one of his dining chairs and he was comfortably seated, rather straddled, on his boyfriend's lap, face-to-face with the older male.
Jin grinned his famous grin, which by now, only Kazuya and a privileged few were allowed to see. Jin leaned closer to him and whispered, "Oh, I will. I can't just ignore how you tasted of sweet chocolate when I kissed you earlier so yeah, midnight snacks will be highly appreciated," his voice became huskier as he ended his words with, “...in bed.”
"Baka!" Kazuya smacked Jin in the head again and laughed.
Not one to lose a battle of who-could-seduce-one-best, the younger male shifted and made sure that he was seated in the part where his lover would appreciate his behind the most.
"Well," he started with a raspy voice, "if you put it that way." Kazuya's voice was lower now and seductive to Jin's ears. "You really have to make up for making me think that I'll be home alone for Christmas."
A moan of appreciation echoed softly when Kazuya decided to nip on the skin just above his lover's right collarbone, the thumb on his right hand brushing a nipple through the cotton fabric of Jin's black, v-neck shirt. Kazuya then stopped and gave Jin a smirk before he circled his arms around his lover's neck.
"I didn't tell you to stop."
"Let's save the best part for later." Kazuya teased and pecked Jin on the lips. "You still have to make up for making me think that I'd be alone for Christmas."
"Well, that's because you assume too much, love." Jin flicked the tip of Kazuya's nose and the younger made a face. "But I love that about you, too. Sometimes. Makes me feel needed.”
Jin felt his lover nudge him on the side with an elbow and stuck a tongue out at the younger male who just smirked. Jin then forked a piece of fruit cake and ate it. He savored the flavor of the cake in his mouth and sighed happily. "Oh, hell yeah, rum!"
Kazuya just smiled over the fact that he was in with Jin for another wonderful Christmas day.
"I love you and that's all that matters." Jin’s words caught Kazuya unprepared and the younger flushed red, feeling embarrassed as he tried to bury his face on his lover’s chest. Jin laughed slightly and hugged Kazuya tighter, as if not wanting to let go. He never wanted to anyway. Ever.
"Mushy idiots are mushy." The younger’s words were muffled on Jin’s shirt.
"I can be sappy too!" the older of them exclaimed.
"They're the same, Jin!" Kazuya looked up to Jin and laughed. "But seriously, I'm glad you're here with me in time for Christmas." He snuggled closer to his lover.
"Me too, Kazu, me too," You just don't know how much... Jin murmured on Kazuya's hair but chose to keep the remaining words inside his head.
Loving how Kazuya seemed to mold himself to him, Jin just smiled as he smelled peppermint and coffee and vanilla as the younger male cuddled closer to him.
It would be painful to accept defeat on the issue that he no longer deserved to return to the group he had learned to love but, Jin glanced at his lover's peaceful form before he pressed his lips softly on the younger male's temple, knowing that Kazuya would still remain a part of him was enough to make everything he had went through all worth it.
Gazing softly at Kazuya, Jin didn't know he could miss the younger male so much that his heart felt like it was about to burst as he basked in Kazuya's warmth and presence.
"Merry Christmas, Jin." the younger suddenly whispered as an alarm sounded off.
Jin smiled as he drew little circles on the small of Kazuya's back. "Merry Christmas, love," he replied and made a move to kiss his lover on the lips.
