The atmosphere was thicker than the knot at the back of Yutaka’s throat. His eyes stared intently into Kouyou’s, whose expression was way more relaxed. He was holding a small pile of magazines with messy pieces of papers sticking out along the edges, that was nothing Yutaka noticed. Yutaka was way too busy staying frozen and believing that he would not be seen if he didn’t more a muscle.

“Are you sure you’re in the right place?” Kouyou spoke up, now walking over to his desk and setting down his pile of magazines before putting his hands on his hips and looking at Yutaka. Seeing how serene Kouyou’s voice sounded, he felt a little more comfortable and decided to speak up as well.

“What do you mean?” Yutaka bent over to pick up the name plate and set it on the desk, seeing Kouyou 2 inches away from him when he stood up. Kouyou was no eyeing him curiously, making him uncomfortable again.

“You’re not dressed for the occasion, that’s what I mean.” Kouyou replied.

“The occasion?” Yutaka looked up at Kouyou, now noticing how he was still much taller than himself. “Oh, you mean, WORK?”

“You work in a fashion magazine yet you wear THIS to work?” Kouyou pointed at Yutaka’s outfit with his right hand while holding his chin with his left.

“I don’t care much about how I look, that’s all.” Yutaka shrugged and went to sit at his desk, opening up an internet browser so he could look for the contact information he needed to set up an appointment to have a photo shoot in the specified location.

“Hey…” Kouyou frowned and went over to Yutaka, pulling his rolling chair way from his desk and turning it in front of him, leaning over Yutaka. “Don’t ignore me. If we are going to be friends, that’s the main rule.”

“Who said that I am going to be friends with you?” Yutaka put his hands to Kouyou’s chest and pushed him away, sliding his chair back to his desk and pretending to try to do work. What he really was trying to do was catch his breath. He could not stand being so close to people.

“Well Kyary-chan.” Kouyou grinned.

“How can you talk about our boss using ‘chan’?” Yutaka rolled his eyes. Although Kouyou wasn’t being mean to him, he was pretty disrespectful and annoying. He obviously had continued living his life thinking that he deserved even the butterflies outside batting their wings just for him.

“She’s cute~!” Kouyou sang, giggling just a little bit. “I am practicing for when I’m allowed to call her that.”

“And I totally care.” Yutaka said with a bored face, finally finding some good information and writing it down.

“You’re really no fun.” Kouyou frowned. “And I have to befriend you?!”

“Well, yeah.”

“Couldn’t I have gotten someone who actually cares about how they look, though?” Kouyou sighed and went off to sit at his own desk.

“No.”

“That blows.” A typing sound was heard. “You really look like you have potential.”

-

After a long day at work hearing Kouyou mutter things as he read and asking him random questions, Yutaka decided that he really hated Kouyou. Sure, he had been his worst nightmare back when he was younger, but now, it was much worse.

He had never seen someone who was so talkative and conceited in his entire life. Correction: He had never seen someone be so bipolar in his entire life. Kouyou went from talking about food to talking about clothes to screaming about his mother and expressing his disgust for alcohol-free beer. Some moments, he was apathetic. Other moments, he acted like a girl.

The frustration was just about getting to him as he poured a cup of water for himself when one of the other workers came into the kitchen and smiled at him.

“Hello, I’m Matsumoto Takanori, and you must be Uke-san. Very nice to meet you!” A person that was much shorter than him but with a powerful voice spoke up, grinning at him.

“Hi.”

“It doesn’t seem like you had a nice day.” Takanori asked, taking the jug of cold water from Yutaka and pouring himself a cup as well before storing it back in the refrigerator. “May I ask you what’s wrong?”

“Just frustrated.” Yutaka shrugged and drank some more water before looking across the room to see Kouyou entering the room.

“There you are, Yutaka-chan!” Kouyou skipped over to the two, taking Yutaka’s cup and drinking all of the water that was left before setting the cup on the counter. “I see you’ve met the person I hate the most in the world.” Kouyou smiled sweetly at Takanori.

“Hey, Kouyou.” Takanori pursed his lips. “I see you’ve made Uke-san have a bad day today.”

“Really?” Kouyou frowned, looking at Yutaka and tilting his head. “I thought we had a pretty nice day together! I was even hoping that he could go have some dinner sometime soon.”

“No thanks.” Yutaka shook his head, holding his work bag closer to him as if he was getting ready to leave.

“Too bad, we have to!” Kouyou put his hands on Yutaka’s shoulders and smiled. “Kyary-chan makes everyone go out with their partners a couple times. She says it makes it easier to share ideas if we build trust.”

“That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.” Yutaka scoffed. “I’m going home.

“Wait! Kyary-chan says she wants to talk to us!” Kouyou took Yutaka’s wrist and dragged him away.

“I’ll see you around, Yutaka.” Takanori waved, raising an eyebrow in amusement.

“Yeah.” Yutaka smiled and waved.

When they were officially out and the door was closed, Yutaka was surprised to feel Kouyou’s hand tightening around his wrist and his mouth not talking.

“You’re hurting me.”

“Why were you talking to Takanori?” Kouyou said, in a very quiet but angry voice.

“He said hi.” Yutaka shrugged. “I thought he was nice.”

“Don’t ever talk to Takanori, Yutaka.” Kouyou shook his head before turning to look at him. “Do you hear me? Don’t talk to him.”

“Why not?”

“He’s the most disgusting piece of scum that Kyary scraped up from the floor of the sewers.” Kouyou seemed to be unconsciously tightening his grip around Yutaka’s wrist again.

“I like him.”

“No, you don’t. You hate him!” Kouyou shook his head quickly.

Kouyou pulled Yutaka into Kyary’s office and pushed him down into a chair.

“We’re here, Pamyu-san.” Kouyou bowed and Yutaka gaped at the way Kouyou addressed Kyary.

“Great!” Kyary clapped, a stick of pocky in her mouth. Yutaka was almost sure that she was probably 2 years younger than he was. How was it possible for a 20 year-old girl to have a successful magazine, he didn’t have a clue. All he knew was that she was doing it despite how childish she could be.

“How can we serve you?” Yutaka raised his hand a little bit, smiling. He knew that was a weird way to get her to spit out what was on her mind, but it got the job done.

“I know this is rather sudden…” Kyary blushed a little and bowed her head apologetically. “But I need you two to come up with a design by next Friday. I will look over it then and if it is good enough, I’ll make sure it is in the next shoot.”

“What?” Kouyou stared.

“I’m sorry!” Kyary frowned. “I had to fire Janie! And Ayane! So I need someone to help me out!” She pulled out some more papers from her drawers and set them on her desk. “This is the concept I have in mind. Try going with more kawaii blue colors than anything. This shoot is for teens.”

“Pamyu-san…I don’t think I can work with actual designing.” Yutaka shook his head. “My job is photography and writing. And I don’t exactly know anything.”

“B-but! I need you guys to do it! Everyone is already busy. And you’ll have Kouyou to help you!” Kyary looked desperate.

“B-but-“

“We’ll get it done.” Kouyou smiled.

“Thank you, Kouyou! I knew I could trust you!”

-

“Are you stupid?” Yutaka was walking angrily towards the station, Kouyou following close behind for whatever reason, despite the fact that he owned a car. “We can’t get this done by next Saturday.”

“Yutaka, listen to me! We can totally do it!” Kouyou grinned. “I know we can!”

“No.”

“Why not?” Kouyou sighed. “If we go over to each other’s houses after work, we can totally get this done in time. It won’t take much. She only needs 6 outfits.”

“Only?” Yutaka shook his head. “There is no way I’m going to hang out with you after work. I barely want to believe that I’m going to have to work with someone as annoying and arrogant as you are.”

“Yutaka-“

“Just leave me alone.” They had made it to the station by now. “Make the design yourself. I didn’t sign up for this.”

“Yutaka, wait!”

“Leave.”

Author’s Note: Yay, it’s here! Um. I added Kyary simply because I realized I needed a name for this “boss”. And well, yeah. Here’s Kyary-chan! Anyways. Is that all I need to say? I believe so. Well. Yeah. Bye!
