Life Update

The weekend was amazing.

The whole tribe went to Cape Lookout where I was able to introduce Cora (baby's momma) to my girlfriend Selona, my parents and her father came, all the kids were there. I was able to catch up to some friends who were camoing there and everybody had a really good time.

Sunday I spent the first half of the day kayaking on the Willamette River where we started at Scappoose Bay and had lunch around the tip of Sauvies Island where the Columbia meets the Willamette (Multnomah Channel) near St. Helens. It was a very interesting experience being at water level for around 4 miles each way. I was able to see many osprey, a blue heron, and a bald eagle. It was challenging crossing the river in the wakes of large boats, I was surprised to have not tipped over a few times.

After kayaking we went to Selonas work where some of her youth were putting on a performance. One of the Mentor Artists Performance Program members, Thursa, performed the Native American Hoop Dance....wow! I was awesome. She taught some Iroquois songs and then we saw a series of plays written by the Native youth.

That night we had dinner with a salty old Vietnam Marine and his wife who I will be house sitting for soon.

I am working on re-enlisting at the moment because I found out that I will not be able to use an accumilated GI Bill of about $30K unless I stay actively in the reserves. I've got drill in town this weekend with a wedding to attend Saturday night and then next weekend I intend to be at the Bumpershoot. Have fun everyone!
