I know people like you. You forget that not only does training mean growth through drills but to go at a skill level that does not overwhelm your partner. It doesn't help the group overall if people are discouraged or disheartened. Stop trying to prove something and learn and exchange and grow.

I actively try not to overwhelm my partner thank you. Now let me go figure out what it is that I'm supposed to prove since you were so gracious enough to leave me hanging. Let me know if you observe anything else that is familier.

I had a teacher once, when he came over to teach us. He'd always make sure to say don't go showing this off to people, but he'd always laugh and say most of us would do it anyways. Pak Herman said that we would because we uncertain about the techniques. He'd say that a martial artist that seeks fights usually have insecurities about his art or him/her self. I don't mean this as insult but if you freely admit that you hurt your friends doing a technique or with sparring maybe it's time to rethink somethings.

I have been practicing more softly as of late. I do feel I am getting the techniques better. I didn't realize how I was trying too hard before.

Improvement, that's something to always be happy for. Forcing, being rigid is never something one should be, especially with movements that are supposed to be fluid and smooth. There's a group of people, that would probably interest you, their philosophy seems to suit you 'higher consciousness through harder contact' if you read their philosophy though it strikes a great harmony between training hard and being too forceful. www.dogbrothers.com It may be worth a look
