Where should I go to acquire all my D&D, (dice, campaign books, battle grid, figurines) and other such pen and paper roleplay, gear? I'm at 18th and Park, so the closer there, the better, but I'll go just about anywhere for a great shop. It must be accessible by PT though, since I'm car-free. Thanks folks!

I don't know where 18th & Park is, but I like Bridgetown Hobbies & Games on NE 33rd & Sandy :)

Well, I'm only a Level 3 Dork according to my much-dorkier housemates, so Bridgetown is sufficient for me for now. ;) But I'll check out GG sometime!

If you're Level 3, am I an Epic Level Dork? ;P

Second this. Bridgetown was a good gaming shop, but most of the stock now is Warhammer and other mini wargames. Nothing against wargamers, but... ugh. It's not a good shop for sourcebooks at all anymore. Pretty good place to get minis and table set dressing though.

My only experiences in Bridgetown have been really creepy, and I've been consistently underwhelmed by their selection.

Hmm. Maybe i'm just used to getting a creepy vibe from gaming shops (being a girl and all) and i don't even notice anymore.

I am likewise a girl but was lucky enough to spend six years in a town with an AWESOME, all-ages all-genders friendly gaming and comics shop, which has set my standards pretty high for lack-of-creepiness-and-sexism in gaming shops.

In general, I've found Guardian Games a lot more open and friendly, and at least one of the owners (or at least upper managers) is female. I've felt totally comfortable every time I've gone there.

Angel is great. I suck with names and didn't know she was the owner, although I had guessed that she was either an owner or somewhere high on the totem pole.

It's not that I feel uncomfortable at Bridgetown. I guess I just don't care. Yeah you might get leered at by some really lonely men, but it's not like they're gonna grope you or take pictures up your skirt or anything. They'll probably just be really enthusiastic about selling you dice. :D

What turned me off Bridgetown wasn't leering--it was being talked down to and patronized by someone who apparently didn't want my business enough to help me find the fairly expensive product I'd asked for. I have no patience for being asked "really? are you sure? YOU?" over and over, or having someone try to steer me to a dumbed down version or the exact opposite of what I want after I've ask where I can find a very specific item that I can describe by title and ISBN.

Unless you're at a convention. Usually.
I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but I've seen the whole "boys' club" mentality of a lot of gaming shops and communities get pretty scary pretty fast. I agree that most won't actually do shit like that, but I also think it's a thinner line than you're assuming.

They'll probably just be really enthusiastic about selling you dice.
But what if what I *want* is the second Arkham Horror expansion? =D

Hmm. Well, I guess my experience was just different than yours. If that happened to me I prolly wouldn't want to go back either!

Haha why would you want to make that game LONGER?? ;)
