Sometimes you hold your breath until your lungs burn and reflex kicks in and it is a reminder that pain still exists and maybe there will be a day where you won't wonder why the need to not breath is so overwhelming.

Maybe it's because that burning sensation is just enough to help ignore the clamouring silence that view for your attention.

So a deep breath is a potent reminder that this is one thing you can control, at least until the little spots of delirium take over. There is that cooling sensation against everything else -- exhale, continuous until you imagine your diaphragm has flatted to a new degree.
