I finally brought my turntable out of storage and went into an "oh my god, I forgot I had this on vinyl" binge last night. This meant that I didn't get to bed 'til 1:30 or 2:00. Sitting in the floor in the living room listening to vinyl made me feel 15 years younger. There's now a huge stack of "must listen" vinyl in my living room...not to be

Vinyl is just fantastic.

Surface noise is an artefact. ;-)

There is a subtle physical interaction with vinyl that is precluded by digital formats - the needle drop. The record spins, you see the label artwork moving, the spiral scratch swirling, and you lower the tonearm onto the grooves. The beauty and complexity of that instantaneous feedback of placing the needle and hearing the sound can't be overstated. :)

The next jukbox heart podcast is all about vinyl - specifically discarded, trashed vinyl. I'm sure I'll need a new needle when I'm done with it. ;-)
