It's been a while...

..since I posted anything of real substance, so I felt a recap was in order.

This has been a busy couple of weeks on many levels, including houseguests, turmoil on the breakup front, settling into my interpretation of home a bit more, and a level of social involvement I have not seen in years, if ever. I'll delve into more of that in seperate entries, but I wanted to focus this entry on the wonderful weekend I had.

, I drove to ATL to return Mike home after the wonderful time he spent here getting my PC in order, helping me to get the house ready for weekend guests and being a wonderful friend on so many levels. En route, I stopped by to fetch PJ and after returning Mike to his abode, we stopped by Mary's for a drink. Mary's has become a semi-frequent Friday afternoon waiting for Tim to finish up with work and thoroughly enjoying myself stop for me over the past few months. I walked in as PJ made an ATM stop, and when the bartender with the shaved head turned around I blurted "You're not Jason!" PJ entered shortly after saying "Hey.....wait, you're not Jason." This was further punctuated by the next guy who entered completely unrelated to us who reiterated the same sentiment. Despite everyone's disappointment that he was not Jason, this bartender proceeded to fire drinks at us like a deadly arsenal and both PJ and I (well me at least) got well plastered. Tim dropped by for a drink with us, then accompanied the two drunk cubbies to dinner at the neighboring Mexican establishment. All I can say about dinner is that it was so damned salty, that I sobered up pretty quickly from pure dehydration. Fortunately, being that none of us were actually able to eat our dinner, the server comped our meal. We tipped him well accordingly, as it wasn't his fault the kitchen was sucking the ass that night. After this, PJ returned to Mary's and Tim and I headed back to his place to watch a movie and so he could put the drunk cubby to bed (read that as you like).

Tim and I awoke sorta earlyish. He had to get to work and I had to get back to Athens to finish up some last minute prep for guests and to actually meet my guests. Tom and Joe arrived around 3:00 and we fairly promptly hit the road to ATL for the loosely scheduled LJ meet up at the Ansley Starbucks. Much to my surpise we had a nice turn out (I'm not going to LJ name check, but you can find photos here and here care of Tom and Joe). After Starbucks, we headed to Mary's then out to dinner at Top Spice, where Tim joined us for a total dinner group of ten. We had a wonderful dinner made especially so by our WONDERFUL waitress Jo-Jo who knows how to work a group of the 'mos.

After dinner, we all parted ways and Tom, Joe, Tim and I headed back to Tim's place for a clothing change then headed out to Hoedowns. As we arrived at Hoedowns, we were greeted by a nice display of fireworks coming from Piedmont Park. One can only suspect this is how AID Atlanta was spending the money they were earning from that evening's charity event at said venue...but who am I to say. Speaking of Hoedowns, this was their "100% country" night, but I think they should change that name to "30% country + cover charge". While not really a country fan myself, I was all set to actually hear country and not the regular homo bar fare...alas I was wrong. After Alan joined us, and he and Tom had a very nice dance, we headed to Woofs for pool and darts. Alan wiped the floor with everyone in pool and Tom was the the dart-meister by far. Next was a nice drive back to Athens for Tom, Joe, Tim and myself and crashing HARD as it was 2am when we returned.

Sunday was a relaxing day of hot tea and conversation at Chateau Sexton followed by brunch at Mama's Boy with recently transplanted from DC Athenians Bryan and Jon then the "PDSexton guided tour of Athens" (i.e. Pete spouting off useless info and opinions about a city he's only lived in for two years). This was followed by cocktails (and a "nap" for Tim and myself) at my house, after which we were joined by my very entertaining Athens-native friend Michael. To say that Michael is "very friendly and very talkative" is an understatement, but his company was thoroughly enjoyed. Michael joined us for dinner at the Last Resort, where we were "served" by my buddy Wayne. Tom has already recounted some of Michael's stories in his journal, so I won't do the same, but let's just say it was entertaining.

After dinner, we headed back to my humble abode for drinks and talking. Tim decided to stay another night (yay!!), but unfortunately, a snafu left Ian stranded in ATL over night, so we were not able to hear the wonders of Costa Rica first hand as a group.

By the time Tim and I awoke on Monday morning, Tom and Joe had already departed back toward Durham, but left a very sweet note on a napkin in the kitchen.

All in all, this was a wonderful weekend and I feel very lucky to have so many delightful people in my life.
