Ropes course with facilitators who didn't seem to know how to handle 14 year olds and who didn't seem to like us all that much
Having to sit in the vans for a half an hour to wait out a lightning storm which begat a number of things:
Van rocking contests with other vans
Being squirted with wiper fluid from my neighboring team leaders in their van
Other teams stealing the signs off the side of our van
Basically a Lord of the Flies type situation occurring with the kids going psycho inside in and around the vans (though I'm happy to say that my group showed restraint and held it together, if just barely)
Being sent home by the facilitators because the lightning wouldn't clear up and keeping the kids occupied in the vans was a lost cause
Almost leaving without the whole thing boiling over into total war, but then right as we were about to drive off, one of the facilitators stole our signs again, so of course I had to tell my group to attack. A water fight ensued where I got rather wet.
Declaring Denise and Dillon's team our mortal enemies and plotting revenge upon them.
It is quite strange the things that will unite and motivate a team. All you need is a common enemy (which is why nationalism works as well as it does). That half hour in the van easily did more team building for our group than all of the rest of the ropes course activities we did earlier in the day combined. Go figure.
Friday's staff meeting is going to be interesting.
