I love the pride and humor in John's point of view here, and I truly enjoyed seeing Dean through his father's eyes. The two of them talk like such a pair of guys - I could see my Army Airborne cousin (my personal barometer for all things Macho and Chest-Poundy) comfortable at a back table with them, nursing a beer or three.

I sensed an underlying sadness and dissatisfaction with the life he's provided for his son, but I'm glad John didn't spend the fic agonizing over choices he's already made. And his ability to sneak around Dean's bravado makes me smile. Your John characterization rocks my socks. All of them, even the ones in the dryer.

Ooh, and I liked that part about John having Dean's full attention. I don't know if it was your intention, but my mind reeled off wondering whether John and Sam actually competed for Dean's attention, and whether Dean's role as Sam's mommy-replacement played into that (especially since you compared Dean to Mary, which is probably a creepy place for my brain to go, but you started it!), and and and...

I'm trying to tell you that your story provoked Deep Cogitation on the subject of Winchester family dynamics. So, yeah.

Bonus points for mentioning Natchitoches! I lived there for four months after Hurricane Katrina, and they gots meat pies and a Christmas parade, doncha know. :)

Thanks for a very diverting read.

*claps hands over ears and rocks* STOP GOING TO THE CREEPY PLACE.

What are you DOING? Stop it! *waves arms wildly*

I am deeply glad that this fic has instigated thought. Just stop making it sound so DIRTY. *titters into fist*

Thanks for reading, dude. And hell, if I'da known about the meat pies and the Christmas parade, I'da worked 'em in there for ya. :)
