So I'm home today, because the evac alerts are still in place very near to me and my area is listed as High Alert.
Firefighters are actively protecting homes about a kilometre east of my house, as the crow flies. This is just nuts, because that means the fire is breaching proper suburbia now. Those streets are not sparsely populated semi-rural, but the first of the dense housing blocks in the area.
There's not much call for panic on my end at this stage, because there is a lovely four lane highway between there and here which is leafy and tree-lined but will still act as a significant break. FESA is handing out no guarantees, but they agree it's unlikely my suburb will be compromised. So it's wait and watch for now.
Disabling comments just because I know you guys have your fingers crossed for me, and I don't want y'all to feel like you have to keep going: OOOOOOOOH DRAGONZ FIRE OH NOEZ over and over again ad nauseum. I'm safe for the time being, and I'll keep you posted if the situation changes. :) *smish* Thanks for all your thoughts and wishes! Much appreciated.
For those worried about horse!Sam, you can cut that out. He's happily ensconced away from the firefront. \o/
