First off. System of a Down has pre-released their album Hypnotize for listening on mtv.com. What does this mean? It means I'v been listening to their new songs for the past day or so. I don't usually rate music like this, but I'm gonna give everyone a track by track run down after a few listens.
1. Attack - ****
2. Dreaming - ***
3. Kill Rock and Roll - ****
4. Hypnotize - *****
5. Stealing Society - **** 1/2
6. Tentative - **** 1/2
7. U-Fig - *****
8. Holy Mountains - ***
9. Vicinity of Obscenity - *** 1/2
10. She's Like Heroin - *****
11. Lonely Day - *****
12. Soldier Side - *****
In other words, its a pretty solid album. The bad songs are definitely below the avg on Mezmerize, but the good songs are amazing. This album is a lot slower and more musical than Mezmerize too. So that is both awesome and disapointing at the same time. Fortunately, System's older stuff never becomes obsolete when they release a new album. If I'm looking for something a little harder I can just head back to their debut and turn the rage up. If I want something a little weirder, switch to Steal This Album!. In other words, I'm sad that we'll prob have to wait another 3 years for System to come out with new shit. But if the progress from Toxicity to these two albums is maintained, it should blow the world away. :D
