Rei twiddled her thumbs and licked her dry lips, but that did little to ease the tension she felt. She swallowed; her throat was also dry. With a helpless look in her eyes, she stared at the piece of paper in Sachiko's hands. Certainly, she was confused when Sachiko asked her to list her schedule, but when Sachiko refused to answer, Rei became insanely anxious.
"Rosa Foetida," Sachiko called her by her title, which never failed to make Rei nervous. "I see here that what little free time you're allowed by this arduous lifestyle is mostly spent on sleep; and I'm afraid you might no longer have that luxury, given your position as Rosa Foetida. As a fellow member of the council and as a friend, I am going to ask you to drop some of these activities."
"Sachi---" Rei abruptly stopped herself from speaking further, courtesy of the stern look Sachiko shot her. As much as she wanted to be persistent, Rei realized no good would come of it, seeing as Sachiko was already being the stubborn one. She sighed, composed herself, and said, "Sachiko, my schedule is not as tedious as it appears on paper. I get a healthy amount of sleep, and I even have time to read the novels I've---"
"I think you just cannot see the drastic change your routine will undertake once we begin our term as Roses. I know it may come as a shock to you, since our Onee-samas made it seem effortless. However, did you not notice that they seemed to have forgotten to fit us in their lives once they became Roses? I do not want to make that same mistake; surely, you feel the same way..." Sachiko paused and looked at Rei.
Rei wasn't convinced. "Our Onee-sama's didn't really---"
"Rosa Foetida," Sachiko interjected, "the free time you're to have at your disposal," she paused again, this time, to show a small, shy smile, "will be well spent with me."
