Back To Life
A/N: This is my FIRST EVER Pushing Daisies fanfic I don’t usually write in this perspective but I thought it would be interesting. I hope you enjoy! Oh, and I wrote this before seeing the third episode “pigeon” so please ignore that Digby ran away and found Ned at school. Thanks.
You are running with Your Friend. Your Friend smells like play-dough and dirt. You love Your Friend. You love when he is happy. He’s happy when the two of you play chase, so you chase him, and you let him chase you. Life is good.
Then Your Friend falls behind in the chase. You reach a road and stop to look back at him. The big truck barks at you. You try to get out of the way, but its going too fast.
That was close. It must not have hit you. It must have gone right over you. Time to start playing again! Your Friend is kneeling beside you. He is not happy anymore. You want to make him happy. You jump up and begin running. He doesn’t follow. You stop and bark at him. He finally follows.
Your Friend doesn’t touch you anymore. He doesn’t wrap his little arms around you as tight as he can anymore. He doesn’t let you sleep in his bed anymore. The humans are sad. Your Friend is the saddest. The humans move. You live at a new house. You are put in a doghouse in the back yard on a leash. Your Friend is gone.
He comes back older, bigger, and quieter. Years have gone by. Your friend doesn’t smell like play-dough and dirt anymore, but like real dough and shaving cream. He lets you live inside again. He scratches that itch on your back with the funny stick. He talks to you and sometimes he laughs. You are hugged tightly again, not by Your Friend, but by the Little Lady that smells like coffee and hairspray. She lets you sleep in her bed sometimes. Life is good again, because you can’t remember how good it was before.
It has been years. There is a New Girl around. You remember her flowery smell, though she is bigger and smells more like honey now. Your Friend is happy like when he was a puppy. You smell the attraction between them. You notice that he doesn’t hug her either. Humans hug each other when they smell like that together. You wonder why Your Friend doesn’t hug her, but then it’s time to eat and you don’t care.
You are lying under the kitchen table after eating. Your Friend and the New Girl are sitting at the table, still eating. Your Friend laughs, you suddenly love the New Girl as much as you love Your Friend for making him laugh like that. You have been waiting all this time for it to happen, and it finally has and you know the New Girl did it. She brought Your Friend back to life.
