I just finished replacing 4 GFCI receptacles (white in color), and 3 single pole switches (white in color) with 4 GFCI receptacles (desert stone in color) and 3 single pole switches (desert stone in color). It was a 30 minute job for an electrician and it only took me 5 hours (spread over 2 days.) But, I turned the power back on and everything works and I'm still alive so I consider the job a raging success.
I can't say the whole job is a success, because I wanted to replace one of the light switches with a dimmer switch, but the ground wire business confounded me. I didn't see a ground wire in the switch box. Do I really need to hook up the ground wire on the dimmer or can I just ignore it and hook up the two black wires? I anyone knows, tell me. I'd hate to burn this place down. We've only lived here about 7 months and are finally getting it like we want it.
