Earthquakes

Nov 10, 2007 11:52

sometimes I pray for earth quakes
when my spine begins to feel
like scales welded in an awkward arch
straining for the computer screen
like flowers bending for sun light

when i'm lonely
I hug the memory of '89
my first
beads falling from the shelves
the Bridge
cracking under the weight of God
us huddling under a table
together
warm
scared

no moment more human
then when we are huddled
together in fear of the Earth

The Earth that waits impatiently
to grow roots through our coffins

The Earth that watches jealously
as we explore other planets
in search of immortality

The Earth that shakes sometimes
as if she is trying to stand up

give me an earthquake
give me something to fear
that is not love or death

dance with me
hold me shaky
like a cheerleader pyramid

when I see eyes that look like
sunsets in rain storms
I want nothing more than to be
an earthquake
to make us realize that
this is nothing
these moments are nothing
for they can be shaken from us like
dust from rugs

and we break sometimes
like bridges

but we can stand up
hold each other
in warm embrace
when all the Earth can do
is shiver
