Taking it to Eleven

Sep 10, 2009 14:35

Last week Krissy canceled her usual Wednesday night dinner party at the last minute so Kurt made a mild-mannered suggestion of having a game night on Sunday because his former-roommate, board game aficionado extraordinaire Jason, was in town. Over the course of a few hours, took the idea and ran with it. I created a google spreadsheet of available games, which I filed in with the help of Kurt, Jason, and Peter. When the dust settled, we had 30 possible board and card games to play between our collections! 30!

So it was with great anticipation that Sunday finally arrived and I joined the group at Krissy's place to start the afternoon/evening of gaming around 3pm. All I have to say is that we took it not to 10, but to 11.

Actually who am I kidding? I have plenty more to say! Between about 2:30pm and 2:30am, we succeeded in playing no less than eleven games! EPIC nerd win!

Here's how it went down:

Players: Me, Kurt, Krissy, Jason, Peter, Cupcake, plus assorted others who were there part-time.

The Games (in order of play):
1. Guillotine
2. Cathedrals (a game created by Jason)
3. Speed Scrabble
4. Battlestar Galactica: Pegasus Expansion
5. Guillotine (again)
6. Apples to Apples
7. Bang!
8. Go
9. Bohnanza (aka "Bean Farmer Extreme")
10. Scotland Yard
11. Set

Quite an impressive list! BSG:Pegasus took up the largest chunk of time (about 3.5 hours!) But boy was it a close game. At the end it came down to the wire with each team moments from victory and the Cylons pulling ahead at the last second with a few lucky cards. Great game though! Sets was a last minute addition around 1:45am when Krissy said we'd played 10 games and we all decided that we had to turn it to eleven (though in retrospect we had played one game twice).

All in all, a fantastic day of fun with friends! Also, Bohnanza is totally amazing! As Peter said, "It taps into a primal need to farm, collect, and trade amusingly named beans." Two thumbs up!
