I just found... the Internet!

So, my primary work computer is kaput at the moment, so this seems like as good a time as any to update my LJ.

Puked in My Mouth

So I discovered a link on Digg last night to a response to Andy Sanberg's "Jizzed in my Pants" video. This one, entitled "Puked in my mouth" is a pair of ladies talking about how they puke in their mouth a little when approached by skeezy dudes. It follows the same music, pacing, and style as the original. I think it is fairly creative, the two girls are hot, and the production values are very good. But there are two things I find interesting about it.

First, the response from Digg comments was overwhelmingly negative. Lots of people commented about how it was a lame rip-off and had no creativity. There was even a lot of really sexist stuff being posted. If I were being stereotypical I'd say one possibility is that a video about girls being grossed out by sketchy dudes strikes a bit close to come for many diggers. But regardless of the reason, it really seemed to have struck a nerve. I'd be curious to hear a take on it from my favorite feminist wit, Dating While Feminist. Oh yeah, so I haven't mentioned DWF before, but you should definitely check it out! Her writing style is tres entertaining.

Second, it turns out the video was produced as a viral advert for http://mstaken.com, a site that sells fake engagement rings for use as a guy deterrent. The concept of pretending to be taken to deflect unwanted advances is one of the oldest tricks in the book, but I think this if the first time I've heard of a place selling actual fake engagement rings. I'm not sure how I feel about the tactic. I mean on the one hand, I realize a lot of women have to deal with all kinds of crap from guys. But at the same time it is pretty disingenuous. I guess it makes sense though.

Six Degrees of Adolf Hitler

Last night while playing the Game of Thrones board game with Kurt, Jimmy, and Peter, Kurt mentioned that a fun game to play on Wikipedia called "Six degrees of Adolf Hitler." The goal is to start at a random article and get to Adolf Hitler in six or fewer links. However, you are not allowed to use countries or country flags (it would be too easy). It is actually a pretty fun game.

I played and starting from Quebradanegra (a province of Colombia) I went Bogota -> Hapsburg House -> Thirty Years War -> Rhine River -> Operation Market Garden -> Hitler. You should give it a try! Another, and potentially much harder, challenge is to get from one random article to another random article in the minimum number of links.
