Wow. I love learning new things. In the past two weeks I went from knowing almost nothing about databases, to managing 3 different access databases to analyze datasets of tens of thousands of records. Woo! I found a great article on data normalization that really taught me a lot about how to work things. Here's the article:
http://www.formeremortals.com/Downloads/UnderstandingNormalization.pdf Today was fun, I taught myself how to write Excel macros in VBA to automatically format charts. I needed to make several sets of 10 identically formatted charts, so with a handy coded macro it became a one hotkey process. If anyone wants to know how to use VBA for chart formatting, let me know and I'll be happy to share the secrets.
It's times like this that I really love my job. One of my favorite things in the world is tinkering with new things. I love the process of learning a new system by diving in with only google and help files to guide me. And when at the end of the day I can turn around a high-quality product for my client in a way that impresses my less tech-savvy colleagues, well then all the better!
Alright, enough tooting my own horn. I guess I'll talk about the elephant in the room next post.
Cheers.
