It is amazing what happens when the right people get a kick in the pants. For the last two months we have been without a restroom on our floor at work. The restrooms were dilapidated and for two months they have been under renovation. During this time we have had to go to other floors to answer nature's call. Sadly, even though we are on the 2nd floor, you can only go up to floors via the elevator. Except at 6:30pm the elevators will refuse to go anywhere but the lobby unless you have a special key card. So, for two months we have put up with the asinine situation of having to take the elevator up one floor to go to the bathroom and if we work late we've had to walk down the street to a Starbucks to use their restroom because there is no other way up one floor after hours!
During this two months of "renovations" there have been people actively working on the bathrooms about 10% of the time. Most days the bathrooms have stood gutted and empty with nary a worker to be seen. Needless to say, with that level of effort we did not meet the December 5th completion target. All this drove my dear colleague, Greg, to email the entire building management company asking, ever so politely, when normal restroom service would be restored. No sooner than I had read Greg's email did at least 20 guys show up to work on the bathrooms. And let me tell you, ever since the his email there have been a dozen people working every day dawn til dusk on these bathrooms. I think they've made more progress in 4 days than they made in the 60 days before.
It just goes to show, all you need to do is kick the right people in the pants and things start getting done.
