Gaming and Apartments

I think that sums up pretty much every turn-based multiplayer strategy game I've played with friends.

Actually it might sum up all strategy games period. The parallels to Risk are abundant. Though, contrary to Josh's exhortations that I am "inherently untrustworthy," I usually make a good ally in strategy games because I don't like to backstab people. I'm usually a pretty reliable ally, it's just that no one seems to believe me. :-P Or at least they don't when it was Josh, Danny, Austin, Preston and I playing Warlords. Ah good times.

Speaking of strategy gaming, this weekend I got back into playing Fall from Heaven 2. FfH2 is one of if not the best mod out there for Civilization 4. It also displays a level of polish and professionalism that I think places it in the top 20 game mods ever. My friend Salan from the Europe in Ruins community just got the Civ4 expansion so we played a game for a few hours last night along with his friend Zinser. Once again, I am very pleased to be a part of the gaming community over at Europe in Ruins. Even though I'm taking a break from EiR itself, I definitely am happy to play other games with my online friends there.

In other gaming news, I have almost completed playing Bioware's acclaimed RPG, Mass Effect. This science fiction RPG is set in an entirely original universe of advanced technology and strange alien species. Playing as the first human inductee into the galactic government's elite special forces, the SPECTRES, you uncover an evil plot that threatens the entire galaxy. It was declared one of the best games of 2007 when it came out for Xbox360 and it just finally came to the PC two weeks ago. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, with the exception of having to redo about 10 hours of gameplay because I messed up on the NPC romance quest without realizing it until the penultimate mission. Once I beat the game I'll hopefully have time to write up a bit of a review.

In Non-Gaming News: I got a call from Peter last night saying that he needs to move up the timetable for getting a roommate at his condo. A few weeks back we had floated the idea of rooming together once Danny moves out. But I guess it didn't really sink into my mind as an immediate action item until he told me last night that he would need an answer this week. Yikes! So in the next few days I have to do some serious thinking about when I want to move out, how much I can afford, and whether I want to take this opportunity. There are, obviously, a lot of perks to finally moving out of my parent's house. Though the idea of having to pay any rent compared to my current no-rent is less appealing. Right now it looks like my choices are the known quantity of a friend who owns a condo and needs a roommate and the great unknown of the DC-area housing market.

So, I ask you, dear readers, do you have any advice for someone looking into getting their first apartment? I'm all ears.
