Cold (and Wide Awake)

Mar 02, 2011 22:49

I am so sick and tired of being cold. I just put on more clothes, turned the thermostat up to 70 degrees, baked some cookies (to use the oven/heat up my condo even more), and drank a big mug of hot tea. I’m a bit better than I was a while ago, but I’m still kind of feeling bit chilled.

I know that increased sensitivity to cold is a big indicator of hypothyroidism. I’m kind of hoping that’s the case; it is to the point where the cold feeling is starting to be painful. I wake up cold at night, and I swear my bones even ache from the cold. If it’s hypothyroidism, at least there is treatment available. Otherwise, I guess I’m just crazy.

Otherwise, pretty relaxed day after the early fire detector wake-up this morning. I finished unpacking all but two of the boxes from my studio apartment. Got my blood drawn for my doctor’s appointment tomorrow (to see exactly where my thyroid levels are at). I ran a few errands. Went to a support group meeting with a friend (although I really didn’t want to go - but it’s probably a good thing she dragged me out). Talked to Mr. Cruise on the phone…and thought I was going to go to bed afterwards, but frankly, I was too cold to even think about crawling into bed. If I go to bed chilled, I keep waking up on and off all night because I never do warm up.

So tomorrow I get the results from my biopsy. Understandably a bit nervous, but oh well. Not much I can do about it. Just hoping to maybe get some answers. I need to get this whole thing resolved one way or another. If it does indicate the need for surgery, hopefully I can arrange to do that very soon…even if it means extending my FMLA leave another couple of weeks. I’d rather not be popping in and out once I go back to work.

Speaking of FMLA, found out an interesting tidbit of news in regards to that. Apparently, the Village Idiot I work with put in for FMLA leave a couple of days after I did. Not sure if she is even back yet. No one ever told me. I feel horrible, almost tempted to even go back to work early. I really had no clue they were functioning without both of us. I know it won’t do anyone any good if I go back to work too soon, but I still feel shitty that they have been running the office with half-staff (there are only four of us in the office). Not that she is much of a help, but still, it must be tough on them. I know it’s not exactly my problem at this point (and that’s probably why they never even mentioned she was out on FMLA), but I guess I just have a bit of a conscience.

I know I need to go to bed. You’d think after my meds, the cookies, the hot decaf tea, and whatnot that I’d be ready to plop down into bed. I hate this…I’m exhausted all day. I can’t seem to even fall asleep for a nap. Then the evening rolls around, and I’m wide awake. Ugh.

But since I’m wide awake, I might as well write. Being home from work is nice in some regards, but truthfully, it is very lonely. Writing makes me feel like I’m talking to someone, even when no one replies.

Oi. That was nuts. My two kitties were fighting just now. I think it was only play fighting, but frankly I don’t want either of them getting hurt. Vet bills would be bad right now while I’m off work. Speaking of kitties, they seem to be adjusting well. Which is great…their personalities are starting to come out as they get more settled in. Rick is still a big kitten in a lot of ways (he’s only about a year old)…but Scott still has a lot of spunk considering he’s supposed to be like fourteen years old. The only reason I kind of believe he might be as old as they say is that he is missing a good number of teeth. The two cats combined are eating a HUGE amount of food each week. I’m kind of surprised how much, based on the last cat I owned. True, it was just one cat and she was at least 3 pounds lighter than the smaller of these two cats, but it still seems like I’m going through a lot of food for two kitties. Oh well. It’s not terribly expensive, even the slightly better quality stuff I just bought. I bought cheap food for when I first brought them home (mainly because I wasn’t sure if they were picky eaters, and I didn’t want to invest much in food until I figured out if they’d eat it). Once I established that they had normal, healthy appetites, I ended up switching them to the Iams Multi-Cat Formula.

Being back in my condo is very cathartic. I am slowly starting to feel more like myself again, and I am truly enjoying getting settled in. I am doing a really good job of unpacking and organizing. I guess I should backtrack and explain a bit here, though. Have you ever seen those hoarding TV shows? Well, that is exactly what I grew up with living with my mother until I was eleven. She was as bad of a hoarder as anyone else I’ve seen on TV lately. Granted, I totally see where that is not a happy or healthy way to live, but it does mean that I didn’t learn a lot of household management skills growing up. It also means I have an inherited tendency to be a bit of a pack rat. Well, the good news is that by watching all those hoarding shows on TV, I’m totally getting a reminder of exactly how I DON’T want to live…so it is making it easier for me to part with stuff that I would otherwise hold onto. I have a HUGE pile of stuff to go to charity. I actually need to work on getting that out of here this weekend; it’s taking up more space than many of my packed boxes at this point.

Maybe I’m getting ever so slightly tired. But I still feel a little too wired to hop into bed just yet. Maybe I’ll watch a little bit more TV. What I really want is more cookies, but the good news is that I’ve already polished those off; there is no more cookie dough to bake tonight. Maybe I’ll make another cup of the Tension Tamer Tea. I have an extreme case of the munchies. Perhaps some popcorn would be a good choice at this point. I just want to stuff my face, but I see where that wouldn’t be the best option for my waistline at this point. I’ve been doing so good since I’ve been home - I’ve totally managed to drop a few pounds. I don’t think I’ve eaten a single fast food item since I moved in on the 17th. Keep in mind, this is a good thing…I had been eating at least one fast food meal a day for the past seven months.

The news is exceptionally boring tonight. Maybe I should queue up an episode of Dexter on Netflix. Clearly writing alone isn’t wearing me out. I think I’m just too keyed up for the biopsy results tomorrow. Ugh.
