Dissapointed in a New York minute

Jul 05, 2005 00:21

It has been awhile since I've updated... But now I have some things to talk about.
For the most part-New York.
Many people come back from New York talking about all the amazing sights they saw,
all of the great cultures and surroundings, etc. I was there for less than an
hour, and I was in complete agony. Before you blame it on the longing I had to
see my girlfriend or thoughts of my comfortable bed, think of this...
You walk one mile down a street, so over-developed with buildings that you can't
see any trees(or any parking spaces, for that matter), nearly bumping in to hundreds
of scruffy looking people all carrying the same look on their faces-sadness/tiredness.
Once you reach your destination(the subway), you enter that, feeling the dampness of
the air around you increase ten-fold. You board a subway train, where you see more
depressed looking people, mostly without companions. Once you reach your subway
destination, you walk a couple hundred more yards, feeling the oh-so-pleasant aroma
of car exhaust fumes and polluted air passing through your nose, and you think to
yourself... YES! THIS IS NEW YORK! No-I thought to myself how nice it would be to
be able to drive somewhere, park, walk in to see groups of people together all talking
with each other, having a great time. New York is the opposite. It is full of people
that live relatively lonely lives, in their 800 SQ. FT. apartments that they probably
pay out the ass for, just so that they can wake up in the morning, and walk to work
by themselves in the cold/heat. On top of all this, if you want to leave the city to
go to the beach, or take a boat out or something, you are looking at a two hour drive,
because the traffic is so saturated.

On the bright side, I was there with my amazing brother, which really helped, and I did
get to see some engineering marvels of man, which thoroughly impressed me. I also got
a VERY nice watch(heh), and got to buy Alex some cool stuff.

From a tourists perspective, New York is interesting, and certainly has some impressive
sights to see. From a philosophical/human perspective-New York is an indication of the
downfall of civilization.

Moving on. Since I got back, I have been doing great. Been spending a lot of time with
my incredible girlfriend, a lot of time with my incredible best friend =P, and just kickin'
back and chilling.

Anyway, hit me up if I haven't talked to you for awhile, and you wanna chill or something,
I have been on a short "vacation".

Over and out(in a New York minute)
