I quit!
Today I resigned at work. Woo hoo! Ive been at Getty for 3 1/2 years, and a year ago I thought I would probably be here for years to come. I used to manage the Datawarehousing and Financial Reporting groups. About 9 months ago my SVP boss left, and I was moved (in a subsequent shake-up) to an Architect role, with no reports, but influence on Film and database design underneath GettyImages.com. The role sounded good, but ended up being more of a "where shall we put Paul now his boss has gone?" kind of thing.
That same boss recently started a consulting company. I now work for him again. My first gig is at a legal software firm downtown, which was originally a spin-off from Bill Gates' father's law firm. So, they have silly money. They are also paying silly money for me, for 3-6 months. Not quite fuck-you money, but silly money. Also, more money than I have earned before, having previously peaked in 2002 when I was a VP at start-up! Pfft. Anyway, it's all going well for me at the moment, financially (and in love of course!). I recently refinanced my condo, for a reduction of $500 a month, and I soak up Katie's tax allowance. A huge pay out last year paid for our 4 week europe jaunt, and bonuses paid for Japan. And the wedding cost me $120, which I later won back at blackjack.
