Spring Awakening
I have seen the future of musical theatre. Tonight. Spring Awakening. I know how those people who got to see the first couple months of HAIR, Oklahoma, or Showboat felt. It was electrifying on so many levels... If you like musical theatre, you HAVE to see this show--it's the future.
First of all, the music is fantastically written. Duncan Sheik's melodies are so powerful, and they explore these voices like... like nothing I have ever heard! It is so magical...
And the actors... They are brilliant! The guy who plays Moritz, John Gallagher Jr, his physicality was amazing and his voice... WOW... I cannot brag about this guy enough... Heartbreaking... Completely and utterly fascinating!
The cast worked so well as an ensemble... Even though there are three stand out characters (Moritz, Wendla, and Melchior), they just worked so beautifully together...
And they are our age...
Fucking brilliant...
I have never applauded so hard in my life...
Or seen a show stop after a song for almost 10 minutes...
Or seen so many curtain calls...
