Thoughts on this week's episodes...
I've been quiet for a while now because real life has taken control of all my time recently...but tonight's Office episode is making me come out of my shell...
Seriously, what in the hell was that? I can't even begin to process how much I loathed that episode. The first ten minutes were completely discombobulated, and the rest was way too dark for a Christmas episode. Now, yes, I appreciate that often Christmas brings out darker themes in our lives. But really? That's what you have to give us after a year without a Christmas episode?! That's the best you can come up with?! That makes me sad. Usually when The Office tackles dark themes, there's enough fluff and humor to balance it out a little. That was lacking here. In spades. Between Meredith, Michael, Toby, and Phyllis, I was about ready to throw something. I didn't not find the addiction storyline funny, mostly because I honestly think Meredith has a problem...that's sad. Not funny. I appreciate Michael trying to help, but again it's MICHAEL. He sucks at implementation of reasonable ideas. Toby is sad and pathetic, but the way he's played/written, I want to hit him, not hug him. Phyllis downright crossed a line tonight by broadcasting Angela's affair to the entire Office...at the Christmas party. I mean, I knew she was catty, but wow. Out of control.
Yes, I know I'm a big Jim and Pam fan, but I was really hoping we'd get to see a little more of their interaction in this episode. That would have balanced out some of the other insanity for me.
And where the hell was Kevin?! He makes Christmas episodes great! I missed him!
So yeah, all in all, I give this episode a big fat D-. The cold open was awesome. The rest I could do without.
Well, I guess there's always next year...*sigh*...
Life on the other hand, was freakin awesome! Okay, so the main murder plotline was a little "eh", but the Charlie subplot action was sweet. I'm not sure how I feel about Mickey Rayborn yet, but I want to punch the FBI guy in his stupid face. How dare he plant shit on Ted! I really wanted Charlie to pull out his gun and shoot him...yeah, I know, that wouldn't be especially productive, but the way Damian played it, I could tell that Charlie kinda wanted to...You don't mess with Ted.
Also, Roman returns! Yessssss. So excited. He's a sick, crazy man...which just makes him that much more interesting. I think Charlie sees more of himself in Roman than he'd care to admit too...could be an interesting episode next week. So. Excited.
Dani/Tidwell I could totally do without. I do want to find out what happened to Jack Reese. I would also be intrigued to see more of Connie...she just kinda disappeared...I'm just as happy without Jennifer, though I feel like that was kinda left open ended too...so many directions to go!
