although Christmas may have already passed, this season is not yet over with and my thoughts are still on this holiday. Bare with me.
I've heard that many people despise this time of year, but never before has it been so apparent. Call it growing up, but it makes me realize what this time of year SHOULD be for.
So far I've been witness to a child dying while still inside the womb, a grandmother dying, a cousin being found dead in their home, another cousins organs shutting off while inside the hospital due to a staff infection, a father being rushed to the hospital for 4 bypasses on his heart, another grandfather being rushed to the hospital again from congestive heart failure, a family being evicted from their home without notice, countless strokes and many other things.
It should make you realize and appreciate all of the gifts you already had before you unwrapped a single present. For all of the loved ones that you have who you can speak to whenever you may need them, and for all of those that you have had the opportunity to know. For the roof over your head and the clothes on your back. For the food in your stomach and clean water that is so easily made available. For the education you've received and the ability to further that. For all the love that you have. For all of those gifts that you've been given... all given by one being... what did you give back? For the one that we celebrate all of this for, what did we do for him? Maybe, all of these horrible things happen this time of year is him telling us something. Maybe he's saying that that's what he wants from us. To help those less priviledged. All I'm saying is this. Whether you believe or not. Give thanks for all of the things that you have by helping those that lack them.
