I’ve already told
joeshimamura about the TIME article by Lev Grossman: An article by a published author positive about fan creativity. (Another unicorn perhaps?) Now I thought it was important enough to be shared.
I often gush about the amazing work the
OTW is doing with their fanfiction (soon to be multi-platform) archive. They are, of course, doing much more than that. And one thing they are working on is fighting the preeminent prejudices fans and their works face. This starts with their stance on fair use and goes on with their more academic projects.
It’s nice to know that the positive PR is showing some signs of working: Lev Grossman
asked the OTW help for his article.
The result was a very interesting “discussion” in the community
lg_interview that led to a very informed ans sensitive article. If you’re interested just join the community and you can read all the questions he had and all the interesting things fans had to say.
The article
“The Boy Who Lived Forever” isn’t even close to giving a full picture of fandom (too focused on the very small book fandom for which Harry Potter is a big exception), but it’s a very good start and one of the few positive articles you’ll find.
