To those who don't know:
I'm currently at Texas State University in San Marcos in the Emerging Stars Program (Summer II session).
Day #1: Move in!
My dad drove me here and we arrived at Arnold, the hall for everyone in this program. I found out I was in the B building, on the 3rd floor; room number will remain undisclosed 'cuz i don't want any scary-ass rapists coming up here.
Anyways, the door was....interesting. Typical dorm. Dirty. Small rooms. Smelly. Community bath. Etc.
My dad brought everything up. We said our goodbyes *sad* and I went up to my room. As soon as I put down the bedspread (black, of course !) the room really started shaping up. Add in some rise against, mcr, and harry potter posters, it's great. Add in my desk area and fridge, and we're rollin! I spend several hours in my room unpacking and getting settled, whilst waiting for my room mate. She finally arrives, and is practically the sweetest girl ever. I immediately realize what kind of person she is: patient, understanding, and bubbly. Her parents seemed rather strict and controlling. I find out that she has a very strong catholic family who possibly is perfect and rarely argues. The way they speak to each other and treat each other was so respectful! Her family was very nice and inquisitive about me, but I didn't mind because I want them to be comfortable with their daughter's room mate. Anyways, I realize how different this girl is from me. She's innocent, sweet, and sheltered. She has never touched alcohol or drugs and has the disposition of a golden retriever.
We go to the welcome barbeque which wasn't half bad.
Then to the LBJSC (student center) for some games.
one game where you introduce yourself. You first do it really fast, like speed dating. You run around the room frantically. Then, you do the "heeeeeyyyy whats crackinnn i'm lane" kinda thing. Then, the most embarassing one. The "i havn't seen you in forever huge dramatic hug". All in all, it was a blast. I've found a total of three people I know. A friend's sister's friend's boyfriend, Adam. An ex boyfriend's friend, Zane, and a guy that was in my speech class, Tyler. It's so funny how it all works out like that. Anyways that night was really fun. I went and watched a movie in a dorm room with some people I had met, then went with all my dorm-floor mates to steal back a stolen microwave. It's a war, pretty much. Met everyone on my floor and talked to them all for 30ish mintues. Talked to my room mate till 1:30am!
This girl I thought I had nothing in common with who has a perfect life? She rides horses and loves animals. She doesn't like high school jock/prep boys. Her dad has been in the hospital for cancer. It's awesome. I feel a thousand times closer with her knowing stuff like this so I think this summer is going to be preeeettty fucking badass.
Day #2: Orientation!
This morning began at a wonderful 6am. We get up and go to check in for NSO. They have breakfast there....fruit and danishes. In weird flavours I won't dare try. So i eat two slices of watermelon. We go in and listen to them talk for a bit then go pick our schedules. As far as summer goes. I have classes M-F from 8AM-11:40Am. And that's it! Wake up at 8, go to my "study skills class", go to my speech class, then come back with the rest of my day free!
