Inspiration -- The Flame Has Died

Uninspiration is so frequent, especially when you feel your popularity and drive fizzling out. This is kind of what Harper was talking to me about today while we were texting each other through our cellphones. She basically told me that with Anxiety, she's loosing some inspiration and is getting lazy about doing things, although she still liked making graphics. I agreed with her and said that it was one thing to start a site out nice and strong, but it was a whole 'nother thing to keep it going. This is simply because, eventually, things get old and that normal "spark" you once had begins to go out. I believe it's the same way with inspiration.

You see, first off you start out with so many ideas on how to create a graphic, but as time passes, the idea flow begins to fade and your left stuck. You've done everything you could think of, therefore everything starts to become repetitive, routine, and boring. You basically fall into a "lapsing" circle and from this, you find that nothing is new. No more is there excitement from revolutionizing your style; you reach your limits and feel that you've completely hit the ceiling and have been knocked out. Therefore it leads to a closure, a break, then a new start. Such is the way that uninspiration-illness flows through your veins.

Some may easily pick themselves up from uninspiration after seeing new sites. These new sites revolutionize the way they see things and therefore gives them an inspiration boost - simply because they see something to look up to and to strive for. However, others aren't as lucky. When you reach the top and are the very people who inspire others, one may find themselves not able to find anyone else to look to for their inspiration boost. Simply because when you believe you're at the top, nothing is new to you. Elaborating upon the "Wave Theory", you are creating the biggest wave that washes upon everyone else. There is no other wave that can completely wash over you, which leads you to a mighty collapse. After all, the larger you are, the harder you'll fall. This heavily ties in with inspiration itself.

My tips for getting inspiration? I can say it varies. The only advice that I can provide you with is to browse sites; but not only that of graphics. Instead, ones that are outside the community (i.e. Portfolios, Livejournal, Domain Sites, Unformal Blogs, etc). Even though they may not offer the same content, I can guarantee that their layout could reform your graphic vision. Even resources can be enough to spark a flame. Basically what I'm saying is this: keep your horizons open and you'll probably be able to find what you're looking for.
