Hoy, all!
So, here's the second half of Part 3 of The Epic - sorry it took a week to work out the kinks and get it posted. I've been dreadfully sick with cold and fever, and my poor brain and body ached too much to much revising or rushing to the library to get some online time. Thanks for your patience, my friends!
I'm afraid I shall be having to

Of course, I didn't mean it quite so seriously in this particular exchange, but I think that must be a painful thing for him.
*grin* It comes off wonderfully light here and I think he cuts his friends a lot of slack (they are, after all, discussing tactics, and he's a big part of the tactics!) It's like being teased by your friends is entirely different from being teased by a stranger, and Superman's amused response captures that well.
(I am surprised you noticed this tiny bit amidst all else that was going on! Wow!)
Superman-woobie leaps off the screen at me! (I really like your other comments about how he's not really Clark here so much as Superman--even after all this time I struggle with what to call him when, and I think he's delightfully Superman here--disproving the idea that that's the least interesting of the different personalities rather soundly.)
I personally am not too certain I pulled that bit off as sharply as I would love, so thank you sincerely for saying what you did about it! (and I'll keep working on that part!) I don't think they'd need to express what they need to with each other in complicated long discourses all of the time. (especially when they disagree!)
Well, that's a tough point of realism, to be honest. You're not in either of their heads, which limits your ability to make it clear--I'm betting an argument between the two of them might go as simply as:
S: Don't even say it.
B: You already know it.
S: *rolls eyes*
B: Don't forget that time.
S: As if you ever let me.
B: I can't let you--
S: --If I keep doing it. Right.
B: *snorts*
S: So we're...*trails off, looks quizzical*
B: *shrugs* If you must.
Poor Kyle, trying to make sense of that! :) So I think their conversation balances clarity with rapid-fire delivery...almost as if they're trying to speak slowly and clearly enough so other people have a chance (however slim) of following them.
(My comments will get longer than your fic at this rate! But you may recall I love talking about your writing, and you always raise the most interesting questions and issues...)

Now, YOU've got to incorporate this into a fic of your own somehow! That's kind of you to say you think I did a good job of showing S and B's 'shorthand' communication, but really, you trumped me just in making this reply! It's an awesome tidbit! :-)
(I'm also sorry it took me so long to reply to this - I got so caught up in RL that I forgot I hadn't answered it! Forgive me?)
I too think that Superman would be the sort to cut his friends a lot of slack; he has always struck me as a hugely patient and very understanding sort of person. He sees into the heart of people uncannily well, I think. He's not omniscient, I'm not trying to say that, and there's plenty of times he can be as clueless as the next guy, but still, he's pretty intuitive, and I think with his friends he'd be even more magnanimous than even usual. :-)
Yeah, Superman-woobie leaps off at me too! :-)

Well, these comments could open up pages of discussion (actually this could be an essay topic in and of itself for the Superheroes Muses comm!)on the differing identities/personas and depiction of such for Superman! But to keep it short, yes, I made a conscious choice way back when that it would be the Superman part of him I would focus on for this story, but I definitely don't forget that he's STILL Clark and still Kal-El, either. He's all of those things, ALL of the time. (but I think while in uniform, with the League, he'd be more 'Superman' than the other two, if that makes sense.) That's so wonderful what you said about this scene disproving the notion that the superhero side of him is the least interesting part of him! Yay! (and agreed, that when he is 'on', he is on in all of his personas!)
Again, I loved your dialogue here. And you're right, Kyle - and anyone else - would have zero chance of understanding such a conversation, so yes, I'd think the two would make some sort of attempt in company (most of the time) to lengthen things out a bit to make it at least a little comprehensible!
YOur comments are great, and I love them long! Keeps things buoyant! Meta writing discussions ARE cool, aren't they? (and yeah, I do recall that. You did spend a lot of fun time talking about and dissecting the two "Shift" stories! That was awfully fun.) Kind of you to think that I raise interesting questions and issues! Hooray!
And I seriously doubt your comments could be longer than THIS fic. Truly. There's a lot more to come. :-)
