This article was on the Washington Post online yesterday, and I thought it was quite accurate about the attitudes that French people today have about marriage and pretty much anything labeled "traditional." I don't really agree with the current view in France, but I can see how it grew out of the secularist culture that has only increased in force in the post-war era. Well, I could go on and on about "la laïcité" in la belle France, but I should save that for actually writing my French comps paper, which I am getting ready to work on today (it's about time).
