Seafood

Some of you may not know this, but this is a pretty fricken big thing for me.

I've started eating seafood.

Those of you that have always eaten seafood, may not properly appreciate the severity of this.

I stopped eating seafood more than 25 years ago. As a child, I ate a little. I think at some point, I got a bad batch and I got really sick.

Food poisening from seafood can make you wish for a speeding truck.

My aversion has been such that I couldn't truly enjoy being at Pike Place or chowder houses. The idea of eating anything more fish like than canned tuna on a sandwich made my stomach roll.

There are people you can ask if you don't believe me. To them, I appoligize for taking so long and making you sufer my bland palate. :)

A couple of months ago, my roomate was cooking up some Halibut and asked if I wanted some. I explained but said I would give it a taste. I do that every couple of years to make sure. Tried a little bit. Ok, not bad. My understanding is that it's difficult for fresh white-fish to be bad to the palate.

So I decided to start trying a little bit more. With reasonable success.

In the last 2 weeks, I have eaten more seafood than I have over the entire preceding 2 decades.

I have found an appreciating for, if not an outright affinity for, Sushi!

Yes. The person who has been afraid and honestly disgusted by seafood for practically his entire life, is now eating it raw.

I've had scallops, and tuna (Yellow fin, blue fin, and white), and squid, and eel, and crab, and salmon, and maybe some octopus. Not entirely sure on the octopus. Once it comes out, it can be difficult for someone who previously didn't like it, to be able to identify it. For a very long time, it was very simply "Seafood" :p .

I'm still a bit unsure when I first look at it. But I've enjoyed most of it a lot.

Now I'm looking at Sushi places and wondering if they're any good.

:D
