Life, why do you hate me?

So, my brother is having his lap-band surgery on June 8. Isn't it just perfect that the one time I want to actually go out to a social function lands on the day right before? This film, a Deaf Entertainment documentary called See What I'm Saying, is coming to Silver Spring, MD for the Very Special Arts Festival. They're only going to be showing the ( Read more... )

Will the creator air it online, perhaps? If not, I don't know what to tell you. It won't be all day, will it? Maybe you could pop in, see it, and pop out, coming home in time to provide your company to your brother. Most likely, it'll just make him more nervous to have everyone, with their own nervous energy, fluttering around him all day - that's just me, though; I can't speak for how he really feels. Either way, I hope you can get both. Don't know how, but here's to hoping you do get your happy ending.

No, it's not likely to be aired online. They're only bringing it to select theatres, and I don't know if it will be coming out on DVD or not. The film itself is the opening production for the VSA Festival. I just want to go to see the movie, and then leave; I don't want to stay for the entire function. But my parents don't think I should go anywhere at all, even though my mom is planning on going to West Virginia the weekend before the surgery. And I don't think my brother would mind if I went, since the movie happens before the surgery, but my parents won't listen.

It's not really your parents' business as far as I see. You decided to go before the surgery date was set and it's not like you won't be able to pay your brother a hospital visit. If anything, I'd say it's his business. Ask him if he finds it selfish.

Actually, it's entirely their business, as I rely on them for a ride. So...yeah. Whether I go or not rests entirely on them. If it didn't, I wouldn't even be worrying about it beyond what my brother's opinion was.

Oh. My mistake then. I'd still worry more about your brother's opinion. If he says to go to the movie than you can tell your parents and see what they say.

If you just decide not to go then you're giving up. I vote that you not give up because there's always a chance that your parents will change their minds.

I suppose, but there's also the fact that it's on a Monday. Dad doesn't work on Mondays, but he doesn't really understand how important Deaf culture is to me as well as my mom does. Of the two of them, my mother is more likely to acquiesce and take me. My dad would probably spend the whole ride lecturing me and making me feel like shit, so... Damned if I do, damned if I don't.
