NaNoWriMo Progress - 41,841 words

I feel that I'm behind on my progress up dates for NaNo. The month is going very well and I'm enjoying the story so much that I find myself writing and writing and writing. I'm not saying it was the easiest to slip into, but now that the momentum is going, it's a blast.

I'm writing Lost and Found for this NaNo, here's the little blurb I did up for it:

Lost and Found

Josie Hart always knew that being a border collie shape-shifter had it’s advantages. So when her boss’s boyfriend turns what should have been a casual breakup into a case of domestic violence and steals her cat, its Josie to the rescue. Determined to smuggle back the missing feline she takes to the streets as a dog. Against dog-nappers and the local animal control Josie is risking her tail for a rather ungrateful feline, especially when she finds herself on a several night stay at the local Humane Society, again.

Now, thanks to her not-so wonderful track record at the HS, she’s catching the eye of Connor Reid, the super-cute employee responsible for her doggie jail time. Even worse, she’s falling nose over paws for the man; at least that’s when he’s not recommending flea products and house visits to her roommate. The last thing she needs is noble minded man out to save a dog that doesn’t need it.

Then the ex-boyfriend in question starts suspecting that Josie’s been in his house and when he notices the stolen cat gone and a view of Josie running down the street cat in hand, things get a little messy… She’s not safe as a human or dog, and the man she’s starting to fall in love with, doesn’t realize she’s also the most recent doggy drop off. So when Connor ends up as her dog-self’s caretaker for a few days Josie’s plans get even more muddled along with her heart.

And Excerpt Number #1 (which hopefully makes some sense after the blurb):

“Ugh! Dude!” I shoved him off and started to roll, but a lady on the ground trumped a tennis ball any day. The dogs stampeded over me, wiggling and worming around for the best vantage point from their tongue to my face.

“Dang!” Matt dodged out of the way as the pack converged over me, some yipping in my ear and others tugging at random edges of my clothing. The party went up in laughter. I never did manage to live these things down.

Matt caught Connor on the arm as I tried to roll out from under the dog pile. “If you’ve met my dog, well, then you’ve met Josie too.”

He shot me an amused look and I stuck my tongue out, forgetting for a second that I was in the kiss pile. Tyler, the Newfoundland dog almost managed to french me but I was just a smidgen faster on the uptake.

“So where is, uh, dog Josie?” Connor asked.

Matt stiffened slightly but I caught his arm and used him to drag myself back to a stand, just as the party group shouted, “Treats!” from the garage and had the mass of dogs charging their way.

“She’s not too fond of the rough play,” I lied; my cheeks flushed red with exertion.

Tracy bounced over and tugged a twig from my hair. “You look a fright.”

“You just wait until Tyler gets you on the ground. I’m not helping.”

I gave her a playful shove and started for the dogs when Matt caught me by the waist and pulled me back. Oh God, if he introduced me like this I’d probably melt. I’d said hi. I didn’t need the formal introduction, back story deal. I was a mess.

And fairly sure I had dog poop on my butt.

“Josie, this is Connor. He works at the Humane Society, he uh, picked up the other Josie.”

This was probably going to get confusing.

Connor grinned. “She’s a doll.”

Me or the dog?

“Thanks,” I beamed up at him.

“We used to go to school together,” Matt started but I gave him a sharp nudge with my elbow, nodded and then shot the garage a meaningful look.

“Why don’t we go eat now that the dogs are heading back out?”

We started as a group for the garage when Connor stepped up besides me. He had really great legs. “You like dogs?”

I nodded. It was kind of hard not to, me being me and all. “I practically am one.”

Normally I try and get a blurb that’s more self-explanitory up, but this story was tough to find one. It took my awhile to get into my main character, she’s much more animated than I am. This has been up for awhile, but I figured it was time to blog it so I can upload my second one soon.
