She made a face at him. "Jack, it's not that" She rolled her eyes, moving over a seat. "Now that I budged over, you're going to sit with me, right?" Her eyes flicked to the screen, her brow raising as she watched the Doctor and- "Oh, God. Doughnut."
"Doughnut?" he chuckled as he draped an arm around her shoulder. "I'd guess that would be the curly-aired one? And...hunh. Your Doctor has...a, um, nice hat?"
"Mel. Nothing in the middle, y'see." She sighed, rolling her eyes. "And yeah. Nice hat. He's... He's interesting." She made disparaging comments about her old boss, and when Caine offered her the coin, she almost sank back into the sofa, her voice almost a whisper. "Wanker."
Jack tried not to laugh at the dragon. He really, really tried. He'd seen a lot of aliens, and yeah...some were primitive, but...
"Oh, come on," burst out along with a laugh. "It's head opens up? Ace...tell me that that thing has never, ever scared you," he said, eyes glued to the screen.
She laughed. "Not scared of it, no, although Doughnut's screaming made my head want to open up." She leaned closer to him, her eyes bright, then groaned as she jumped up in the air. ".... I was sixteen and stupid. Just... remember that. Sixteen, and stupid."
She got up to switch reels, swallowing hard as she threaded the film. "... It's- It's Daleks. So that you know."
"It's okay with me...if it's okay with you," he replied, shifting on the cusions and stretching out one leg so when she sat back down, she'd be btween his legs and in his arms and against his chest. There was no way he was going to let her be off by herself after a warning like that.
She bit her lower lip, and nodded slightly. "It's alright." Two quiet words was all she offered, leaning back against him, her head back against his chest, fitting easily under his chin.
She didn't say anything else, just wrapping her arms around herself under his as the music began to play.
"Yeah." She was still quiet, actually pressing herself against his chest like if she could she'd just go through him and hide behind him. "Yeah, they do." She swallowed hard as the Dalek was cornering the Doctor, and she was bloody lying on the ground-
"Hit my head on the linoleum. Wouldn't recommend it, really."
He noddedand remained quiet through it. All the way until the point where she fired the ATR at the Dalek and explained blowing it to hell as I was aiming for the eyepiece.
"Oh, my God," he chuclked, squeezing her tightly and kissing her on the top of the head. "Ace, you're fucking amazing."
Ace flushed, ducking her head as an involuntary smile crept up onto her lips. "Well, I was aiming for the eyepiece." Even that, when she knew she did good, she was almost...unused to people telling her she'd done well.
"What in the world did he think, sticking us behind a table?" She was pink still, diverting his attention back to the screen so she could- well. Not be all... red.
Jack beamed when she aimed for the eyepiece again, this time up close and personal. The bat, whatever the Doctor had done to it, was amazing. She was amazing.
Surrounded, cornered, even then she was amazing, but he'd held her often enough when she woke up screaming, could feel the tension and the fear coming off her in waves as they watched, he could only hold on tighter. Keep her safe here even if he couldn't do it there.
As long as he kept focused on her, he wasn't thinking about how the Daleks had done the same to him.
She was shaking, her eyes glued to the screen even as she didn't want to watch, even though she didn't want- "I-" She only said the one word, pressing back against him, reflexively trying to get away from the screen. It was just- it was too much, almost.
He spent half the time with his eyes on her, and half with them on the screen. “It's okay," he whispered, holding her close as the Daleks were destroyed. For a minute he felt a stab of jealousy that the Doctor had come, had saved her, but then it was clear he hadn't done it for her. He hadn't even known she was there, it seemed
( ... )
"We should watch it." Her voice was quiet, strained. "I want you to know. I- I want to see it, but- I can't- I can't watch it alone." Her voice cracked, and she ducked her head. "... Please? I- if you- if you don't mind, I- I need you."

She was...this was her past and she was...Ace.

He kept quiet about his thoughts about Mike (he didn't like him a bit) and the Doctor (manic a bit, and what was with the rolling the rrr's?)
As it ended, he shook his head. "The television people knew just how to make our lives into good entertainment, don't you think?"

I need you.
She'd never actually admitted it before.
