Journey to the dark side : K-drama and I

Feb 28, 2008 22:15

Well, it's not that I'm not interested in J-Drama anymore. It's just that sometimes, there's no J-Drama that interests me.
So between such interval, Nan introduced me to Korean Drama. I personally don't like K-Drama that much because most of them are too trashy and seem to drag on forever.... Plus Korean actors don't suit my taste.... The only plus side of K-Drama is only that K-actresses are so adorable.

To be honest, I still prefer J-Drama to all else for
1) They are short --only 10-12 episodes per series. You don't have to spend much time waiting for them to end.
2) Story line of J-Drama have a lot more substances--apart from Romantic relationship, there are also other kinds issues like familial love, workplace relationship/tension, glass ceiling etc. Not all  focusing on romantic relationship like K-Drama.
3) As I said before,  I don't find  Korean  actors attractive......( yeah, I (guiltily) accept that I do judge a book by its cover.)

Anyhow, let's have a look at my list of K-Dramas in chronicle order.

1) Goong---Nan (the K-Drama addict) introduced me too this.
2) Wonderful Life--I haven't finished this since it's too boring  for my taste--I watched the first and the second episode and lost interest despite Nan's forceful attempt to have me watch it. Oh, the kid is cute, though.
3) The First Shop of Coffee Prince--love this love this love this! The best K-Drama ever.
4) Ju mong -- watched it with grandma during the last summer holidays. Quite good a drama, I have to say , but I didn't have a chance to finish it before I returned to the UK. Will try to finish it later.
5) Goong S---watched the first 2 episodes.  Fell a sleep thus lost interest.
6) My Name is Kim Sam Soon---Nan's influence again. Funny one--like the acting for the lead actress. an OK drama
7) Full House---yeah...I know I'm a bit behind everyone on that. It supposes to be the first one I watch since it's the one that starts K-fever in Thailand. Actually I started watching this drama 3 years ago when my sisters were crazy about it. I watched a couple of episodes and then lost interest.....I don't really get what the fuss is all about this drama! I mean Rain is so NOT handsome! (I still like Akanishi Jin, Oguri Shun and Odagiri Joe a whole lot more) I like the lead actress  and the other male lead in this drama but not Rain. I guess predictable storyline made me loose interest.  I began watching it again about a month ago. Well, I was so desperate since there is no good J-Drama out there to watch....and finally finish it in the end. What can I say....it's a drama I will only watch when I have absolutely nothing better to do. I think it's way  too overrated..totally disappointed.

My favourite K-Drama ever is, of course, Coffee Prince. I dare say that  it's my most favourite Asian Drama ever---at the same or even higher level as  Nodame Cantabile. It's a well thought-out drama tackling a lot of controversial issues such a homosexuality, coming of age, familial responsibility, fidelity and a lot more. It the first K-Drama that I truly love and didn't feel like being forced to sit through, watching nonsense like I sometimes felt watching  Full House and Goong. It's not trashy ( unrealistic at times but absolutely not trashy) and full of substance. Acting in this drama is superb especially the lead actor and lead actress. Also beautiful cinematography. For someone who is very anti-K-drama, Coffee Prince rose above all else and even beat a lot of J-Drama  for  a place in my heart.

Next time I'll talk about my journey to the even DARKER SIDE aka Taiwanese Drama. Stay put!

Heard bf is ill. Get well soon, love. Wish I could be there to take care of you. I feels like his health is not so good this year (worried)....Normally I'm the weak one and he always took good care of me. It's so unfair ! Now that he's not so good, I can't take care of him. Long distance relationship sucks!!!!!

k-drama, ranting
