Chaplin comes from early in the series, shortly after Ganta's arrival in G-Block and before his battle with Minatsuki.
Personality: At first glance, Chaplin Sukegawa is an exuberant, flamboyant presence. She wears bright, skimpy, feminine clothes despite her male body, and she is extremely outgoing and flirtatious and has little regard for the concept of "personal space". Some people might call her "intrusive", but she prefers the word "friendly". She's almost always upbeat and tends to speak in a sing-songy tone, and she likes to get close to others, especially men, and flirt with them and hang off of them.
Aside from that, Chaplin is essentially a good person who cares for others and does what she can to help them. She just has an odd way of showing it a lot of the time. When things get more serious, so does Chaplin. She's a force to be reckoned with in a fight, won't give up until the end, and will jump in to protect her friends even if they've just been arguing. And even though she's a strong fighter, she's also rather kind in her own way, the sort to offer a shoulder to cry on, or to offer cooking lessons for a ~young girl in love~. Then again, she does still have that "no personal space" problem going on; her method of offering a shoulder to cry on is to walk right in to someone else's bedroom, sit down on their bed, and start talking.
Part of the reason she's so exuberant and extroverted is the difficulty she's experienced in her life; a transsexual woman who spent most of her life living as a man, Chaplin was ironically never free to be herself until she was imprisoned for murdering her lover's mistress. On the outside she had to fit in, dress in suits, wear her hair short, and act as though she was just one of the crowd; sometime after she arrived in Deadman Wonderland, though, she decided that she would rather just be herself, and so she started dressing as a woman, grew her hair out, and cast aside her birth name of "Masaru". And so now she has no regard for what's "normal" or "expected". She just does what she wants to, without caring what anybody else is going to think about her for it.
There are very few things that can make Chaplin upset for very long; she's used to blood and gore, so too much of that won't bother her. If someone she cares for turns against her, she feels let-down and upset, but she's quick to forgive. If someone calls her "Masaru" or "him" or "a crossdresser", she'll be angry, but she's used to it so it doesn't bother her too much. Basically, while she can be momentarily upset or down, she's determined to always push forward and be the strong, beautiful woman that she knows she really is.
Abilities: Chaplin is what's called a "deadman". Thanks to the so-called "Nameless Worm", a femtomachine that somehow entered her body during the earthquake ten years ago, she has an ability called a "branch of sin" which allows her to control her own blood. Chaplin's branch of sin, "Peacock Peak", allows her to form her blood into the shape of spikes or brambles with which to attack.
One drawback is that she has to be bleeding to use the ability; another is that if she loses too much blood, she can succumb to anemia and pass out or die just like an ordinary person.
