Today, I got to ride in one of these:
When I was driving home from Williamstown yesterday, I passed a sign that claimed I could get a scenic ride of the northern Berkshires for $35. Being the stupenderific journalist that I am, I thought it would be super-awesome to go on one, but I didn't want to pay. So I offered to write a story about it.
So this afternoon, I got to ride around North Adams, Williamstown and Mount Greylock in the world's tiniest plane. There was only space for two people in the aircraft and the pilot (who also works at the bowling alley!) is a very tall guy.
Imagine being in a small car, kind of like my Mini Cooper (just smaller), with nothing more than a lap seatbelt, being tossed around with the wind. You think "It's not that far off the ground" until you realize, that those are the tops of trees below you. Not grass or bushes, but a fucking forest.
It feels kind of like riding a very unstable roller coaster.

And this is my pilot, Matt. He's explaining to me how a propeller works. He didn't kill me so I like him.
Seriously, there's one thing that I unconditionally love about my job and its that I have the opportunity to do so many amazing things everyday. Sure, I could have just gone on a tour and paid for it but I know it would have been pushed into the back of my mind as one of those things I always make a note to do on the weekends but never find the time for.
It was easily one of the most fun experiences. Unfortunately, now I have to go write about it.
