Well, it's been a couple days. tomorrow is Friday, and the week has flown by. Blessedly so, for it has been hot as hell, and unpleasant to work outside in.
Tuesday was by far the worst, working on what was literally a hot tin roof where the temperature just after lunch over the metal nine stories up was a miserable 116 degrees. Oddly the humidity the next day when it was only 87 sapped me worse than the heat, but all in all unpleasant.
We added a few new people to the crew in Harlem this week, and it has been interesting. One of them is Polish, I think, but he speaks German. Eventually I will work on speaking that with him at work, since it helps for school and all and he doesn't speak much english. What he does speak, however, is a vast improvement on the complete lack of english spoken by two of the other guys from the Dominican Republic. I could go off on an immigration rant, but I won't. I am just so incredibly tired of having to speak in sign language to ask them to do or not do something. It's absurd. I am all for english being the national language. Not the official language, per se, but certainly the national language. I don't want to have to know Spanish to function. Will I get around to learning it? Eventually. But I hate being forced to it, the situation irritates me.
As far as the other guy, he at least tries. He speaks some, makes the effort, and at least understands what you are telling him. That's a start. I can handle that. And all of the silly jokes aside, he is a genuinely nice guy, and a hellacious worker. I honestly think he is part robot, he barely even stops for water on days like yesterday and tuesday. It's a bit scary.
I realized that I'll be done here in three weeks, and back off to take a couple days in SC and MD before heading back to move into the apartment. Could be interesting. I bet I could move in and not a soul would notice until I came to get whatever stuff of mine they may still have lying around, be it chairs, tv's, tables, whatever. I'll be unobtrusive, of course. Knock-knock, gimme my shit back. That sort of thing.
I'll have to paint and whatnot before I move the furniture in, it's a smaller place, so that doesn't leave me much space in which to pile all of my furniture and still get at the walls. Could be interesting. I'll need paint, supplies, and paint thinner... the last is just for me. Ha. Okay, I was kidding, relax. Booze? Likely. And I'll have to end up buying pizza or beer to sucker my friends into helping me move in. Could be interesting. All coming up soon here.
I need to get back down to Florida at some point. Just to go. I haven't been in a while, and there are some people to see, some golf to play... maybe a jaunt to the keys at some point. Who knows. Just thinking in print right now. If you're interested, lemme know.
I think that is enough inane babble for tonight.
Oh, and the middle east situation makes me sick to my stomach. Get over it. Your God sucks. Worship me instead, I'm much more fun in the sack.
