Phone Conversation

I just had one of the most satisfying phone conversations I've ever had with Matt, the guy I write code for in exchange for sweet, sweet money.

Earlier this morning, I tried to log onto his FTP server to work on a project, and discovered that I couldn't connect. I checked to see if I could get to the project URL, and discovered that it was down as well. I fired off an e-mail, telling him that everything seemed to be down, and promised I'd call in a little bit if I didn't get a response. After all, if the server's down, odds are he wouldn't be receiving my e-mail, either.

Twenty minutes go by, and I decide to call.

Matt: Hey, Pavel.
Pavel: Hey, Matt.
Matt: I know. I'm working on it here. I'll e-mail you in a few minutes.
Pavel: Okay.
Matt: Bye.

It was beautiful. It was like an AIM conversation - no frivolous chit-chat, a quick greeting and identification, and then straight to the topic at hand - one that we were both familiar with, so there wasn't even need to review the well-known facts.

You know, if more of my phone conversations were this short and to the point, I wouldn't shudder every time I heard my phone ring.

Soosed Bait.
