The Comfort Playlist

Jul 27, 2009 22:51

This is the post-that-started-as-a-meme which ended up becoming a post-to-pimp-comforting-music. Was in a funk the past few days because of too much work, too tight deadlines, and, to top it off, -that- time of the month. *sighs* Which resulted in me listening to said playlist on loop. And then PL suggested I pimp it so here you go. Alot of these songs are old. Some have memories, while others just somehow paint pretty pictures in my head. I've tried to describe it, but for some reason it ended up like some weird songfic with no characters. Lyrics aren't the main point here. The main point is the tune and emotion. And the fact that it calms and encourages me at the same time.

Twenty-three songs. I hope you like it. Comments on the music will be very very very very nice, since this blog is really quiet... will be nice to know that the audience is more than just three people. =)

The zip with all the music is here: Part 1 + Part 2.

1. The Beatles - Hey Jude
Five. My mom is mending my uniform, and I'm lying on the bed, flipping through her tattered copy of 'Learn how to play the beatles on guitar'. The song starts playing on the radio, and my eyes trace the lyrics as my mom sings along.

2. The Beatles - Let It Be
let it be, let it be, let it be, whispered words of wisdom, let it be.
Ten. I'm in the car and my dad is belting the chorus after the song played on the radio ten minutes ago. Mom rolls her eyes and tells him to shut up as he draws breath to start the chorus again for the sixth time.

3. Luna Sea - In Silence
Play the song. Close your eyes. You almost see the notes, like water, trickling down towards you, over you. You don't know what is being sung, but you're sure that something magical is happening. When the song ends, it feels like a beautiful dream has slipped from your grasp once again.

4. Glay - Yuuruginai Monotachi
The words, like murmurs, surround and embrace you. You feel calm, safe, and loved, again.
(And no, i've no idea what he is actually singing about.)

5. Chicago - You're The Inspiration
Seventeen, and they always play this at school events. Everyone sings along, and whenever the harmony begins, I get a thrill down my spine. Listening to this now always reminds me of youth, and freedom, and friends. All of them. Smiling.

6. L'Arc En Ciel - Snowdrop, Flower, and Blurry Eyes
As you listen to the soaring melodies, you feel that, maybe, you can leave all the drudgery behind after all.

7. Do As Infinity - Yesterday & Today
This song reminds me of graduations, and farewells, and the closing of each stage in my life.

8. Paolo Nutini - These Streets
This is the soundtrack as you wander the streets, alone, contemplating, while strangers brush past on all directions, hurrying into their own lives.

9. Glay - Beloved and A Boy - Zutto Wasurenai (i.e. unforgettable)
Fourteen. The familiar tracks start again for the nth time, as I put my first j-rock cd on loop. These songs sound like the wistfulness for my teenage years.

10. DBSK - I Wish
At first listen, your typical run of the mill boyband song. But there's something inexplicable in the tune, in particular the chorus, that puts conviction back in my steps while I'm trudging to the next mundane episode that is my life.

11. Suede - The Wild Ones
Listening to this lets me pretend that someone is holding my hand and we're running away together, across the fields, into the sunset. The smiles on our faces rival the sun, then.

12. Glay - Haru Wo Aisuru Hito and Soul Love
Happy songs. I hear sunshine, love, and general feel-good auras.

13. DBSK - You're My Melody and Stand By U
Soothing. Gentle, caressing, calming. Loved.

14. Luna Sea - Aurora
Seventeen. I lie in the dark, the song playing on my rickety stereo boombox. By the chorus, I'm singing along, and in my mind I almost see the auroras in the namesake, dancing across the evening sky. It kinda feels like flying.

15. Kobukuro - Kimi to iu na no tsubasa
Perhaps the soundtrack when you're running breathlessly, happy news at the edge of your lips, while the sun is shining and sky is blue. The end of the song always makes me feel a tad bit breathless from being too happy.

16. Mayday - Zhi Ming Yu Chun Jiao (Romeo and Juliet)
Singing this song while thinking of all the problems somehow sings them all away.

17. Mayday - Zhi Zu (Being Satisfied)
This consoles, teaches me to let go.

18. WANDS - Sekai jyuuni dare youri kitto
Because when I sing this song, I just feel damn good.
