Once
I watched a movie called Once last night. One of my adult students was taken in by one of the songs featured in the film, Falling Slowly, and had written out the melody by ear. She asked for help with harmonizing the melody. So I thought I would watch it to get a sense of the song she's so interested in and - Wow! What a great film!
It's a story about 'boy meets girl'. The story takes place in Dublin, Ireland. He brings his guitar and plays music on the street for money. And one day a girl passes by and says she likes his music. Thus begins a beautiful collaboration of music and friendship. I don't want to give too much away about the story but I will just say it's a beautiful story about people, life, love, loneliness, and relationships. And the music is really good too! In fact, the film is described as a "charming contemporary musical". I would describe the music as contemporary folk. Amazon has samples of the soundtrack. Go have a listen. I think I'm going to buy it.
