The OHS choir concert was Thursday evening. It went well.
Yesterday, I went to Sacramento to the 3rd Annual Ragtime Competition. Two students of mine had registered, but one cut his thumb (all the way to the nail, ouch!) and I recommended he sit this one out. I hated to do it but he couldn't play through his piece at his lesson last week, and it wasn't for lack of trying. :(
That left one student. She didn't place but she played very well! :D Her family gave me a ride to the event (it's an hour and half drive) and they bought me lunch. Wasn't that nice!? :D
There were two first place awards and two honorable mentions in each division (according to age) . I'm not sure why they didn't just have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. *shrugs* I was in disagreement with the judges who awarded one of the students a first place. An honorable mention, maybe, because her playing was good but lacked the rag time spirit, imho. Oh, well. *rolls eyes*
This morning, I was up early (even with the time change) to get ready for the Almond Bowl 5k run. Did it in 34:10 - YAY! :D Beat my other time of 34:46. Every second counts. ;)
