I had my 6 month dental cleaning appointment today with a new dentist, Dr. C. My dad sees him so when I was due for my 6 month checkup I thought I'd give him a try. I had been thinking about switching dentists for a while. Dr. K took over our family dentist's practice when he retired a few years ago and, well, I've just stayed with Dr. K ever since. But Dr. K is just .... I dunno....off. He's ok, but just very dry. I never got a good vibe from him.
So, first impressions of the new dentist and office staff...
The furniture and decorations in the waiting room weren't at all over-extravagant (think royalty) like Dr. K's waiting room. It was plain, everyday furniture. It had a homey feel to it and very nice.
There weren't the usual offers for a cup of coffee or hand waxing while my teeth are cleaned that Dr. K's staff offered. While those are nice things, I think it's odd to be offered that at a dentist appointment.
There were the usual health/dental questions and checking blood pressure (mine was 124/84, btw). The hygienist poked and prodded and the scraping of the teeth wasn't so bad. And they had pina colada toothpaste!!! :D That was a new one on me! Among the other flavors were chocolate mint, fruity something, regular mint, and others I can't remember.
Then Dr. C came in to do his part of the examination. He's one of those people that puts you immediately at ease. We chatted about how long I've lived in this town, what high school I went to (since I've lived here my whole life), college and career related topics.
Anyhow, Dr. C passes the 'new dentist' audition.
