Summary: What if all odds are against the two of you from being together? Will you take what life has to offer you or would you fight tooth and nail to get what you want? What if it's just a way of fate to tell you that it's not yet the right time to be together? But if that's the case, would going against fate and being impatient make you lose each other all the more?
A/N: I'm just making the most of the short break I have. So forgive me (*bows*) if I would not be able to update as fast as I used to. I'd be posting two chapters today but that's all you can get from me for the next couple of weeks. Gomenasai!
PrologueCHAPTER 1Next Chapter
Nishikido Ryo skipped happily as he walks out of the elevator. He has every reason to be in a good mood. It’s his first day as a university student and his best friend, Ueda Tatsuya, promised to give him a tour around the school. Although, the promised tour is not until after the orientation, he thought he’d pick up his best friend early so that they can have breakfast together.
Tatsuya doesn’t know that he’s already in town. He arrived yesterday from Osaka and moved in to his apartment near the university. He planned on having dinner with Tatsuya but he didn’t realize it would take the whole day to make his apartment a liveable space. That’s why he decided to just surprise the older man this morning.
He looked at his phone to check the apartment number. Convinced that he’s in front of the right door, he knocked. He was surprised when a beautiful woman, clad in nothing but a man’s shirt that falls just mid of her thighs, opened the door.
“Can I help you with something?” she asked looking annoyed as if he’d disturbed something.
“Ah... I-is T-tatsuya there?” Ryo stammered.
“Tatsuya, it’s for you,” she said as she motioned him to get in.
She led him to the dining room where Tatsuya is serving breakfast-shirtless. Ryo can’t help himself but stare at his best friend’s well-toned muscles. He watched as those muscles flex even in Tatsuya’s small movements.
“Oh, Ryo! Ohayou! I thought we’re meeting after the orientation?” he greeted as he sit at the head of the table. The girl, who Tatsuya didn’t even bother to introduce, sat on his lap and unashamedly started to kiss his neck. Tatsuya didn’t seem to be bothered by it. He just continued to talk with Ryo who is starting to turn into a color of a tomato seeing the scene in front of him.
“Weren’t you too excited to start university? Your orientation doesn’t start until 8am, right? It’s only 6:30,” he said while one arm circled her waist and the other is sneaking up under the hem of the shirt.
“Umm... I just thought I’d have breakfast with you,” Ryo said.
“Ok, you can have breakfast with me, I cooked plenty anyways. My class is not until 2pm so I’ll give you a tour after orientation then we’ll have lunch,” the older man said with a smile still looking oblivious to the grinding woman on his lap like it’s an everyday thing.
“That’s fine,” Ryo answered.
“When did you arrive from Osaka?”
“Yesterday. But I was busy setting up my apartment. I forgot to call.”
“That’s okay. But you should have called if you need help. Or I could have brought you dinner,” Tatsuya said.
Ryo just nodded and continued eating. They exchanged news about each other for a bit while eating breakfast. But then Ryo is starting to feel uncomfortable with the scene in front of him what with the girl seems like intent on eating Tatsuya than the food on the table. And it doesn’t quite settle on him well. He can’t understand why he wants to tear that woman from the other man's lap and throw her out of the door. Before he could think of more horrible things to do to the woman, he gobbled up his food and after his “Gochisousama,” he stood up.
“I think I’ll go ahead. I don’t want to be late for the orientation. I’ll see you later,” Ryo muttered and walked out of the dining room. He’s still at the genkan putting on his shoes when he heard a moan. He shook his head and walked out of the apartment.
As soon as Ryo was out of the dining room, Tatsuya turned to the woman on his lap. He kissed her hard, plunging his tongue into her sweet, hot and wet cavern exploring every nook and cranny. His left hand was holding the back of her head to guide her into a deeper kiss while his right is kneading her thighs which elicited a moan from her. They only broke off the kiss when the need for air became too great.
“You’ve been naughty while I have a visitor,” Tatsuya said while picking her up, breakfast forgotten. “I think you need to be punished.”
He grinned while dropping her on the bed. She yelped but it turned into a moan when Tatsuya straddled her and ground their hips together.
When Ryo left the auditorium, he found Tatsuya just outside the door talking with a girl that is definitely not the one he found in his apartment this morning. Tatsuya is tucking a hair behind the girl’s ear then leaned closer to whisper something to her. Whatever that is, it made the girl blush furiously. That’s when Tatsuya noticed him. He kissed her just on the corner of her lips before bidding her goodbye.
“Yo!” Tatsuya greeted while walking towards Ryo.
“Who are you and what have you done to my best friend?” was Ryo’s greeting.
“Huh?! What the hell are you talking about?”
“You’ve been with two different girls already and it’s not even lunch yet! That’s not the Tatsuya I know,” Ryo said looking scandalized.
Tatsuya just smirked while saying, “Why scared you have competition this time?”
“Hmp! You wish! But I was never the one to play the field. Besides, I already have a girlfriend. Going back to the topic on hand, what happened to you? You used to be shy around girls,” he asked.
Indeed, back in their high school days, Ryo used to tease Tatsuya for being a nerd. He was even accelerated to a higher grade. That is why although Tatsuya is only a year older than Ryo, he’s two years senior in school. All he cares about then are studies, music and basketball. Since he was in an all-boys school, he was never comfortable around girls. During social nights and school festivals, it was Ryo who usually takes the spotlight being his usual charming self. Tatsuya, on the other hand, being part of the student council, works on the background.
Taking those in account, it was quite a surprise for Ryo to find how much the older man has changed in the past two years he became a university student. The Tatsuya now ditched the glasses in favour of contact lenses. The black cropped hair grew into a lush copper head. The almost-snob shyness and serious demeanour turned into a confident, smiling and positive aura.
“What do you mean what happened to me? We talk to each other often and go out whenever we have time. And when were you able to snatch a girlfriend?” Tatsuya asked.
“I confessed to her after the graduation ceremony. I’ll introduce her to you one of these days,” Ryo said happily.
“You do that. I might be able to change her mind and choose me instead. Let’s go I’ll show you around then we’ll have lunch. I’ll introduce you to my friends as well,” Tatsuya said with a smile. He can’t show Ryo how much the news of him having a girlfriend hurt him. He has to show that he’s happy for him.
Tatsuya showed Ryo around the university. He noticed that Tatsuya is quite popular around the campus. A number of students greeted them which Tatsuya replied with a beautiful smile. Ryo doesn’t understand why he suddenly hate people noticing his best friend. He even glared at one of the girls who planned on approaching them. When they were younger, he was the one always urging Tatsuya to go out more. Now, he wished the older man to go back to being shy and anti-social.
Their last stop is the cafeteria. Ryo noticed the murmurs and glances thrown their way as they make their way through the cafeteria to a table at the corner of the hall.
“Hi, Kame,” Tatsuya greeted to the occupant of the table. “This is my best friend Nishikido Ryo. Ryo, this is Kamenashi Kazuya.”
The two men exchanged greetings while Tatsuya and Ryo settled on their seats.
“Aren’t we going to line up yet?” Ryo asked noting the long line.
“Jin’s getting the food already,” Kazuya answered. “Tatsuya already told me what to order for the two of you.”
Soon enough, a tall handsome guy came to their table carrying a tray of food.
“Oh, Tat-chan, you’re here already,” he greeted as he serve the food.
“Hi Jin, this is my best friend, Nishikido Ryo,” Tatsuya introduced.
“Hajimemashite. Ne~ Tat-chan, looks like you’ll have a rival this year,” Jin teased.
Tatsuya just shrugged.
“I don’t think Tat-chan is even bothered by that. He doesn’t want to be the school’s heartthrob in the first place,” Kazuya explained.
Ryo snorted. “This donkey face is a heartthrob? Are people here blind?”
Tatsuya smacked him on the head and said, “Who are you calling donkey face, you monkey? Like what Kame said, I don’t want their attention. Go ahead and be the darling of the crowd. But then you already have a girlfriend! I’ve had enough of this conversation.”
They finished their lunch and went their separate ways having different classes. Ryo is taking up Engineering while Tatsuya is in his third year in Management. The other two are both taking up Marketing with Jin in his first year like Ryo and Kazuya, who’s a geek like Tatsuya, is in his second year.
After class, the guys agreed to meet at the campus park. When Tatsuya reached the meeting place, he almost went back and just go straight home. There seated on one of the tables were Jin and Kazuya being their usual lovey-dovey pair and Ryo chatting with them his arms around the shoulders of a petite girl. But before he can turn around, Ryo already spotted him.
“Tatsuya!” Ryo called. He approached him and dragged him to a bench. “I’d like you to meet my girlfriend, Hana. She’s studying here as well.”
“Hajimemashite,” the girl named Hana said.
Kazuya is looking at Tatsuya. He swear he could see tears pooling in his eyes. He’s known for a while that Tatsuya is in love with his best friend. And he knows that this situation is hurting him.
Tatsuya, in spite of the hurt he’s feeling, smiled and offered his hand. “Nice meeting you too.”
He turned to the other three and said, “Guys, I know we planned on going out but I have to finish a report. You guys go ahead without me. I’ll make it up to you soon.”
He walked away an as soon as he turned around, the tears fell.
