Jin went to work that morning in a good mood. And there are plenty of reasons to be so. First, he’s finally back after months of being outside the country. That means he would get to see Tatsuya again. And second, it was his birthday a few days ago and there would probably be some gifts that he would receive from his friends.
He beamed happily when a few people he met along the corridors of the Jimusho wished him a happy birthday albeit a late greeting. It still feels good that they still remembered his birthday.
The smile on his face disappeared as soon as he stepped inside KAT-TUN’s dressing room because the face that he wanted to see so badly was not among those that are crowding around him right now. He looked around the room only to be confirmed that there are only four people inside. With a heavy heart, he responded to their warm welcome forcing a smile on his face. But his curiosity got the best of him.
“Maru, where’s Tatchan?” he asked. It was odd that Tatsuya hasn’t arrived yet. He’s usually the first one to come in the morning and he’s seldom late if never.
Maru shrugged in response having just arrived a few minutes earlier. Surprisingly, the usually KY and in his own game world Taguchi was the one who answered him.
“Nishikido picked him up earlier. Tatchan said they’re going to have breakfast,” he supplied.
“Breakfast? Did they have lunch just yesterday?” Koki pointed out. Jin looked at Koki with a frown on his face.
“Those two are getting awfully close these days,” a voice said. Everyone looked at the direction of the door where the voice came from. And there stood Yamapi who came for his usual morning visit.
“What do you mean, Pi?” Maru asked as Pi sat beside Jin.
“They had dinner a couple of nights ago and I saw Ryo get in Tatchan’s car,” Yamapi said.
“Pi-chan~~,” Jin whined. “Is Tatchan leaving me for Ryo-chan?”
“What are you talking about Bakanishi? Tatchan loves you. He wouldn’t do something like that,” Yamapi comforted him.
“But why are the two of them hanging out a lot?” Junno pondered. Jin hugged Yamapi and sobbed on his shoulder.
“You’re not helping, Junno,” Yamapi reprimanded him while trying to placate the crying Jin.
“But it’s true though. They were even texting and calling each other,” Koki said clearly enjoying teasing Jin. Jin wailed like a little kid whose candy was taken away. Nakamaru glared at him but it only fueled Koki. “I’m not making up stories. You were even here when Ryo brought Tatchan a bento when our hime skipped lunch.”
“Honestly Koki, one more word out of your mouth and you’ll sleep on the balcony,” Maru warned. It effectively shut Koki up not wanting to sleep on a cold balcony without his Yuu-chan.
And right on cue, Ryoda entered the dressing room laughing at a joke only the two of them knows. Ryo noticed that Jin is there and nudged Tatsuya who in turn looked at where Ryo was pointing. He then smiled beautifully and glomped on Jin.
“Jinjin! I missed you!” he said as he tried to kiss Jin. But Jin is not having any of it. He buried his face on Yamapi’s chest like a little kid with tantrums. Tatsuya raised an eyebrow and looked at Yamapi as if saying, “What’s up with him?”
Yamapi sighed. “Come one Jin, Tatchan said he missed you right,” he goaded Jin while pushing him away from his body which is a tough task since Jin is quite heavy.
“Really?” he asked looking at Tatsuya. “You’re not going to leave me for Ryo?”
“What?!” Tatsuya asked incredulously. “Why would I do something like that?”
“Oi! You’re making it sound I’m a bad choice,” Ryo defended himself but Tatsuya just glared at him. “What? I’m better than that Bakanishi. I’m the Sexy Osaka Man. I look better and I’m a better actor…”
“But I don’t like midgets who has an underdeveloped brain process,” Tatsuya interrupted him before turning to Jin. The statement left Ryo dumbfounded. “Love, don’t be jealous of that dwarf okay. We were just hanging out. And you said you want us to get along, right?” Ryo was planning to make another counter insult when Yamapi dragged him out of the room to start their practice.
Jin nodded and hugged Tatsuya. “I missed you so much Uebo~” he purred.
“You’re such a baby when you’re jealous. And don’t *gasp* squeeze too tight, *gasp* I can’t *pant* breath.”
Tatsuya was saved from having his life squeezed out of him when the manager came in and inform them that they have to go to their recording. Jin bid him goodbye and went to spend the morning visiting sempais and friends around the Jimusho.
The rest of the day passed by without much incident although Jin got some weird comments and greetings from the people he met along the hallways of the Jimusho. The comments ranged from “You’re so lucky” to “I would ask him to marry me if I were you.” Not having any idea what they were talking about and not even how to respond to such statements, he just shrugged them off. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to talk with Tatsuya for the rest of the day both of them having a pack schedule. So he was looking forward to the evening when he would probably have Tatsuya by himself.
When he entered his dressing room after his meeting-the last one for the day, he saw a box lying on top of the coffee table. There was a note on top of that that read: ‘Wear this and come up to the rooftop.’ He opened the box and inside was a simple dress shirt and a casual jacket. Curious as to what it was about, he changed into those clothes.
He went up the rooftop without expecting anything. When he opened the door, the first thing he noted was that it was unusually dark. Then suddenly a spotlight shone on him while a slower version of happy birthday is being sung on the background. He walked deeper into the rooftop trying to see who those people are but the spotlight was trained on him the whole time making it hard to make out the faces of the people around him. But he’s sure that there are quite a number of them here.
He was still wondering who would have thought of this surprise party when the singing stopped and another spotlight came on. Then it swept across the area and stopped on Tatsuya just a few meters ahead of him holding a cake. At the sight of his gorgeous boyfriend, who looked more like an angel in his white shirt, Jin can’t help but smile widely. Words and comments from earlier finally made sense and it dawned on him that Tatchan was the one who thought of and planned this party.
Tatsuya stopped in front of him and said, “Belated Happy Birthday, Jin! Make a wish.” He obediently closed his eyes and made a wish before blowing out the candles. Then all the lights came on revealing the faces of his guests who took turns in wishing him birthday greetings.
‘Well, there goes my quiet night with Tatchan,’ Jin thought but enjoyed the party nonetheless. In fact, it was a blast. He enjoyed it much more than the party on the day of his birthday. Sure it was fun but this one has his friends and family all in one place. He can’t imagine how much work Tatsuya have to do in order to gather everyone without him knowing.
When the party was over, Tatsuya drove them to the former’s apartment. They have a silent agreement that Jin would stay there whenever he’s in town. The ride was spent talking about the party and how it was fun seeing everybody to celebrate his birthday even though it was a post-birthday bash.
Later that night, in the confines of Tatsuya’s apartment, when they have showered and changed into something more comfortable, Jin dragged Tatsuya to the living room for a night cap. Tatsuya smiled at the sight of coffee and cake on the table.
“Jin, I just brushed my teeth,” he complained.
Jin pulled him towards the couch and snuggled next to him. “You can always brush your teeth again later. I just want to spend sometime with you,” he said while shifting their position so that Tatsuya was comfortable sitting on his lap. Tatsuya smiled fondly at his boyfriend’s sweetness. He missed having Jin to himself.
“Ne Tatchan, how did you manage to plan that party? You guys have been really busy.”
“Ryo helped me a lot. And that was the reason we’ve been hanging out together. Besides, he got in touched with people who I don’t even know were your friends,” Tatsuya explained.
Jin buried his nose on the crook of Tatsuya’s neck. “Sorry for being jealous about you hanging out with Ryo. Honestly, I fear you’ll find someone else when I’m away. I know I’m not exactly a good boyfriend and I’m scared that one of these days you’ll realize that and leave me,” Jin held Tatsuya tighter.
“I guess you’re lucky ‘cause I’m crazy in love with you,” Tatsuya said returning the hug.
“Does that mean you’re crazy enough to say yes if I ask you to marry me?” Jin asked.
Tatsuya looked at him trying to figure out if he’s serious about what he said. He knows how serious and focused Jin is in his career. Not that he doesn’t trust their love, it’s just that he knows it’s not one of Jin’s priority right now. He doesn’t want to keep his hopes up only to see it crushed in the end.
“IF you’re going to ask me to marry you and you’re SERIOUS about it,” he answered instead.
In response, Jin lifted him and placed him on the couch. Jin went inside their bedroom leaving a dumbfounded Tatsuya in the living room. Less than a minute later, Jin returned and kneeled in front of Tatsuya who still has the same big question mark written all over his face. Jin took his hand and looked him in the eyes.
“I’m glad to know that you love me the same way I’m crazy in love with you. I may not be the ideal boyfriend and I have my misgivings-I think a lot of them. But there’s one thing I’m sure of. No one is going to love you and be crazy about you as much as I do. I don’t discount the efforts you’ve given for tonight’s party but the best gift I could receive is your consent to marry me.” Jin paused to present Tatsuya a small box containing an elegant platinum band. “Ueda Tatsuya, will you marry me and spend the rest of our lives being crazy in love with each other?”
Tatsuya was speechless to say the least. From the looks of it, Jin is serious-dead serious-about his proposal. Tatsuya has never seen that serious look on his face before. Then suddenly, Jin pouted.
“Tatchan~,” he whined. “You said you’ll say yes when I propose. I’m serious you know.”
That was enough to make Tatsuya relax and smile. “Of course, I’ll marry you,” he answered. Although he likes seeing the serious side of Jin, he loves the childlishness more.
Jin placed the ring on Tatsuya’s finger and then kissed it. “This is the best birthday ever! And you’re the best gift I could ever receive.” Jin touched Tatsuya’s face tenderly before leaning in to seal their promise of forever with a kiss.
