There's spoilers in here, so beware.
I just randomly wanted to share some of my thoughts about the last book, of course.
Okay, I just have to say my favorite moment was Mrs. Weasley, "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!" Then she KILLED Bellatrix!! Yep, that's right, nice little good guy mom just killed the shit out of this crazy death eater. I'd have loved to see Neville scalp her or something with some horribly painful spell, but this was great too. How she's just at this breaking point. So awesome.
I love Rowlings talent of making me absolutely despise a character, then totally change it by showing their point of view. I wanted Kreacher blown up, but he so totally redeems himself, now I adore him. And the image of the house elves attacking Death Eaters. That was amazing as well. In another series they'd show up for the last battle and be comedy relief, you know attacking someone with pies or some other funny nonlethal force. Oh no, not for this series. The fuckers attack with KNIVES. And cause real damage.
Dobby was always irritating to me as well. I know he meant well, but I just have a low tolerance for characters like that. But the way he saves them, the way he makes that sacrifice just puts everything in perspective. I sobbed so hard when I read his tombstone.
Speaking of which. The deaths!! My god so painful! Hedwig! I was so pissed off. Everyone means so much to me, Mad Eye, Tonk, Lupin, FRED. At first I was worried that she's going to start killing off characters just to give us a reaction. That it was going to be meaningless. But now I know better, she's been setting this up the whole series. There have always been things in the way of a real battle, but now Voldemort is in full battle mode and so are his troops. And people die. It's war, it's really a full scale battle. Kudos to Rowling for not backing down.
I of course also have to devote a paragraph to Snape as well. He's always teetered on the edge, and everyone wanted him dead at the end of 6, but now that it's come full circle, it's made such a perfect story arch. Even Harry respects him now. The things he's done, the way he loved Lily, many of us saw that coming, but just to see it. I didn't realize they would've been great friends either. That really drove it home. And that at the end, he gave Harry those memories. So epic. It took me a second to realize the meaning of Snape looking into Harrys eyes. Was he doing some magic thing? No, I think he was looking in Lilys eyes. And that is so special to me. He still loved her, he wanted to be reminded of her as he went. Perhaps even imagining a child that could have been theirs.
Two more big crying fits on my part were the monument to the Potters in Godrics hollow. They;ve erected a statue to them!!! SO sad. Then of course when he used the ring and everyone was beside him. Everyone he's lost. The Marauders, his mom. They cant save him where they are, but they can for the only time in the books really all just be there for him at once. These are Harrys first family, the ones who without Voldemort would already be there for him. It was a huge payoff to not only give Harry that moment, but them as well. Especially what he says to his mother. I sobbed like a baby. Hell I cry at the mirror of Erised AND the scene in the graveyard. But this killed me.
Then of course the scene at Kings Cross with Dumbledore. With the broken and lacerated piece of Voldemorts soul. I love that she illustrates just what it is Voldy has done to himself to get immortality. He has missed some integral part about life and has actually literally torn himself apart.
Then of course the true reveal of Dumbledores master plan. He totally made that universe his bitch. He used all of it's rules, all of the things within to make this epic plan that has backed Voldy into a corner. Of course, it never would've worked if harry wasnt' such a badass. But he pulled everything together. The Masterwand, even freeing Harry of the horcrux inside him. And I'm SO happy that we could finally have the payoff of Dumbledores reaction in book 4. When Harry tells him that Voldy used his blood to come back, he's momentarily triumphant, and now we know why. It makes me laugh though that the plan would've failed if Voldy would've just listened to Wormtail in 4. Then Harry couldn't have come back.
Speaking of Wormtail. *laughs in his dead face*
So overall. This was an awesome way to end the series. SHe's had 7 books to pull all this together, and she's managed to do everything so well. This is a fitting end to the series. It's everything I needed it to be. Sometimes endings don't live up to their storys. But this one did. The houses united, Slytherin kicked on it's ass. Hogwarts rising up against Voldemort was awesome. Everyone got together who should have. Lily, James, and Albus SEVERUS Potter was an awesome addition as well. I had to read that one over, "Are you sure she wrote Severus and not Sirius, Paul."
It's all I wanted. Especially with Neville being a badass and continuing the Order AND bagging himself not only a Horcrux, but Nagini herself.
Oh and reusing the Basilisk was really cool too.
Harry Potter has risen so high with the whole series. Now we've seen the full arch, the whole story. And I couldn't be happier with how it went.
Now all we have to look foreward to is the movies.
Which by the way, after waiting awhile after Order of the Phoenix, I've come to the conclusion that this would have been my favorite movie so far IF they didn't screw up the ending so much. Pretty much every scene after the Ministry is so rushed, it made me mad. There's so much that I feel needed to be there.
But I digress.
Maybe sometime someone can kidnap Rowling and make her write Marauder stories. They don't have to be super epic. Harry's story was the epic one. But just to be reading about them would make me happy.
I'll miss the Harry Potter universe, most of all it's characters.
So good bye everyone. We love you.
